Re: Host info for offline hosts

7 years ago, by john8oy in Network Scanner Forum

Its already there! Apologies for that, never seen it. I have done some messing with it, and I find it rather unstable when this is enabled and very slow, getting this error see attached. Also would be better if the dead hosts are greyed out? Thanks as always John

Host info for offline hosts

7 years ago, by john8oy in Network Scanner Forum

Hi Andrew, hope your well. When importing a list of IP Addresses to scan from the import IP / Hostname list and scan those addresses, and if a host is DEAD, it would be extremely useful if the Hostname (via DNS reverse lookup) and the Bookmark information is still presented, as this data can be obtained even when the host is down. This feature could also be implemented if the "Display dead

Re: Feature request: column values extraction and substitution

Right, I see. The reason I wanted to implement this is there's often Multiple SID's, and so it would give the opportunity to omit the unwanted SIDs. If it can't be done then not to worry, can always revert to manual copy and paste. Rgds, John

Feature request: column values extraction and substitution

7 years ago, by john8oy in Network Scanner Forum

Hi there Andrew and Co. I've been creating an application string with 'user input' using the {input here:default value} option. I've learned you can Input a default value using a : (colon) in the string, very useful. I wondered if the default value could be extracted from a column. For example, this is the string I have used: cmd /K reg add "\\%0\HKU\{Logged SID:}\Software\Microsoft\Wi

Re: Feature request: Live Display

Good points andrew. * Agree drop re-bolding idea, and just remove the greyed when host re-appears? If there were some kind of column it could show that change. * Yes an uptime / downtime column would be very useful, but also a count for how many times the state has changed? * Thats cool, I'll have a play with the ping timeouts.

Feature request: Live Display

8 years ago, by john8oy in Network Scanner Forum

I really like the Live Display feature, and I'm aware of the log view. I think it could be enhanced in a few ways. * In the scan view, grey out hosts as they go offline, in addition to adding the new hosts in bold, and re-bold hosts if the come back on * Also, have a live display column output showing Failed count (great for diagnostics on flaky networks, could be used to identify a faulty swi

Re: Feature request: Display related bookmark

Hi Andrew, Thats simplied the output, but it still concatenates where I have a network address in more than one bookmark. I guess I could delete the others, but it would be nice to be able to swicth them on and off when Needed. They're Bookmarks that have multiple wans grouped. Heres my new result:

Re: Feature request: Display related bookmark

Excellent, I've tested and works well. Only issue I have is where I have the subnet repeating in multiple bookmarks, the output is concatenated into quite long strings. These bookmarks tend to be grouped networks that are used seldom. What would be useful is being able to turn these entries off in Bookmark Manager with a check box much like you do with the Applications Manager? This would

Feature request: Display related bookmark

8 years ago, by john8oy in Network Scanner Forum

Hi Andrew, hope your well. I'd love a way of Identifying the IP Address range with a Friendly Site name, similar to your friendly names for Hosts, but for IP ranges or VLANS if you like. Possibly use the Bookmark Name if one exists, and present this in one of the scan columns. I'd find this would make life much easier when using the 'import IP/Hostname list' to scan random address' as way

Ok, no worries. I guess it's a Microsoft quirk. I'll stick to the WMI for Windows specific hosts. Cheers

OS Detection without WMI

8 years ago, by john8oy in Network Scanner Forum

Hi Andrew, Apologies if this has been asked before, because this quirk has been around for a while. When Netscan returns the built-in method for OS version, it reports "Seven/Windows 2008 R2" or "Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2" for example. I can add an extra WMI query "SELECT Caption FROM Win32_OperatingSystem" but this is an extra overhead. Is it possibe that the

Re: Remote PowerShell is now available

Got to the bottom of it. I ran your tests and got the same errors. No firewalls were running. It turn's out the WinRM on the remote pc is not configured by default. You first need to run this command on the remote PC: WinRM QuickConfig -quiet After that, the Netscan PowerShell commands work fine. I guess the client WinRM configuration would have to be set using Group policy? In the shor

It mentions WS-Management service should be running (WinRM) It wasnt running ont he remote device, however I manually started it, and still got this error: Error: Connecting to remote server lds-edit-382.eng.jpress.co.uk failed with the followingerror message : The connection to the specified remote host was refused. My apologies. Just tried again and it does do that. I must have tried to append the same menu twice. So thanks for clearing that up, and thanks again for the feature update.

Re: Feature request: individual and group switches for bookmarks

Thats a good alternative Andrew thanks. I've tested and works for me, however, just one small addition if possible. Would it be possible to be able to hold the CTRL key to append "All the above" to whatever is already loaded? Thanks in advance

Feature request: individual and group switches for bookmarks

9 years ago, by john8oy in Network Scanner Forum

Hi Andrew, I organize my bookmarks nested, and frequently connect multiple networks to scan. Currently I hold the control key to append, but a better solution would be a tick box beside each entry, so you can turn them on or off individually, or tick the root heading to add that group. I attached example image Complements again on a great utility.

Re: Suggestion: add Tabs for new scans

I like this suggestion. Maybe the tab names could carry the Bookmark Name should it have come from a Bookmark. It would correlate well with my earlier suggestions: https://www.softperfect.com/board/read.php?12,18951,18951#msg-18951 Here's to a bright future

Re: Quotes around comma-separated command-line parameters

9 years ago, by john8oy in Network Scanner Forum

Thanks for your response Andrew. I'll amend my scripts going forward. I did enjoy the simplicity in the way the comma automatically split the arguments, and was easy to manually add a quote if needed, but I guess you can't keep everyone happy. John

Re: Bug in v6.0 - bookmark sorting

Another small bug I've found. I can no longer arrange IP Bookmarks in Bookmark Manager alphabetically. My new entry just remains at the bottom and doesn't respect the 'sort' by clicking the name column.

Re: Quotes around comma-separated command-line parameters

Maybe a tick box in the Option / Applications tab to turn on or off quotes for parameters. Or do you think there may be a silver bullet approach?

Re: Quotes around comma-separated command-line parameters

9 years ago, by john8oy in Network Scanner Forum

Hi Andrew. The best way I can illustrate is this. The Logged user column's can carry multiple values, Esp Terminal servers. So Passing the command line value could have two scenarios: Scenario 1 cmd /c mybatch.bat user.name1,user.name2 The above command will pass %1 and %2 as separate parameters. Scenario 2 cmd /c mybatch.bat "user.name1,user.name2" This above command will

Quotes around comma-separated command-line parameters

9 years ago, by john8oy in Network Scanner Forum

Hi Andrew, A recent build update added automatic quotes around passed command-line parameters from column values. This causes me issues with some of the scripts I use. Where a column may have two values comma-separated, these were passed as two parameters to my applications. Now with quotes, my applications see it as one parameter. Is there a way of turning off the quotes in this instance? M
