How to backup software configuration

Hello, I've been using NetGenius for a few years now and it's been great. Last year though my PC failed and since then, having reinstalled NetGenius, I was wondering if it were possible somehow for me to backup my configuration of the software? Mainly just the priorities I set for programs and such. I would hope it could be done quickly through the UI in a future update unless I'm missing something, instead of having to go into the registry editor or file explorer; if not though, then some instructions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words - good to hear NetGenius has served you well.

You're right that there isn't a backup button at the moment. It's a sensible idea, so we've noted it as a feature request for a future update. In the meantime, backing things up by hand is straightforward and doesn't involve the registry.

Everything you care about: your program priorities, bandwidth limits and general settings - all live in a single folder:

%PROGRAMDATA%\SoftPerfect\NetGenius

Simply press Win+R and paste the above path to open that folder. Note, NetGenius has two parts: the window you see, and a background service that keeps the database open. Close both so the file saves cleanly before you copy it:

  1. Right-click the tray icon and choose Exit to close the interface.
  2. Open Services (Win+R, type services.msc), find the NetGenius service, right-click and choose Stop.
  3. To back up: now simply copy the entire folder somewhere safe, then start the service again.

To restore: install NetGenius, close the interface and stop the service as above, copy your saved folder back into the above path, then start the service again - your settings will be exactly as before.
