Feature roadmap for IP address monitoring
3 posts
In networking environments, having an IP address monitoring tool is critical because it provides:
- Real-time visibility: Identifies which devices are online and which have failed.
- Failure detection: Quickly locates service interruptions or disconnections in test environments.
- Latency measurement: Evaluates packet response delays, which is essential for diagnosing performance issues.
- Simultaneous monitoring: Tracks multiple devices at once, eliminating the need for manual checks.
- Network optimization: With accurate data on availability and response times, configurations can be fine-tuned to improve stability.
In short, an IP monitoring system ensures more efficient infrastructure control, enables early problem detection, and enhances service quality in both testing and production environments.
I am considering buying Network Scanner, and would like to know if maybe in the roadmap these features could be integrated into this app.
Network Scanner does actually include a feature called Live Display that provides continuous scanning capabilities. When enabled, it keeps monitoring your network in the background, automatically detecting new devices as they come online and identifying those that have left the network. This gives you ongoing visibility without needing to manually rescan each time.
That said, there's an architectural distinction between network scanners and dedicated monitoring tools. Network Scanner is fundamentally designed for discovery, inventory, and point-in-time analysis: identifying what's on your network, checking open ports, gathering system information, and so on. Live Display extends this with real-time updates, but it's not built around the alerting, historical data collection, and latency trending that purpose-built monitoring platforms provide.
