Does it require a GUI to run on CentOS

I tried to install NetWorx on CentOS. It doesn't seem to work, telling me "Gtk-WARNING: cannot open display". I don't have a GUI installed. Does it have to use a GUI?

NetWorx on Linux is a GUI only application: it requires GTK2 and a desktop environment.
In a console you may want to use something like VnStat.
