Hello SoftPerfect support,

I want to have an empty RAM File System volume after I boot my Windows 11. But so far I haven't been able to achieve it. I tried enabling the "Wipe memory before releasing it to the system" option in Advanced Options, but it didn't help. Could you please give me a tip on how to start with a RAM FS volume size 0?

Regards,
George

Without an image file the RAM FS volume should start empty every time. If files are still there after you switch your PC on, that is because of Windows Fast Startup.

Windows Fast Startup saves the system state (including RAM FS volumes) to disk on shut down, and then restores it on the next boot. The "Wipe memory before releasing it to the system" option does not have any effect on it. The RAM FS installer offers to disable Windows Fast Startup, but perhaps you unticked that box during installation, or a Windows update switched it back on.

To turn Windows Fast Start off, open Command Prompt as administrator and run:

powercfg /h off

This disables hibernation, and Fast Startup with it. From then on the volume will start empty after every shutdown, plus this will free a few GBs on the SSD and reduce writing to it.
