Why doesn't the MAC address always show up?   21 October 2015, 23:17

When doing an IP scan and Network Scanner reports results on devices responding to pings, once in a while, it leaves out the MAC. Is this a bug?

If you are on a routed network, your router has to allow the MAC address. If not, you may not see any or only the routers MAC for all devices.

Just want to add: if you are scanning the current subnet, all MAC addresses should show up. If you are scanning a different subnet, there's no guaranteed way to get a MAC address unless your router runs proxy ARP.
