How to filter out the Internet usage and to separate the LAN traffic statistics

Started by Omar

Hi, I am looking for a tool that would allow me to get daily usage stats on multiple file-servers I have distributed in the US. Your NetWorx tool seems perfect for the job, however the stats that it provides includes everything coming in and out the file-server, including traffic that goes out to the internet (like backups).

I was wondering if there is any way to filter the captured statistics so it would only monitor the traffic in the local LAN reaching the server. Basically I am trying to identify the amount of data that local users get In and Out our server only. If I can exclude the traffic that the server sees coming from its default gateway, that would be great, because anything that comes from outside the local LAN would have to come from the gateway.

You could try a workaround, since it's possible to specify custom IP address ranges to exclude. These would be most public IPv4 addresses:
0.0.0.0 - 9.255.255.255
11.0.0.0 - 126.255.255.255
128.0.0.0 - 169.253.255.255
169.255.0.0 - 172.15.255.255
172.32.0.0 - 192.167.255.255
192.169.0.0 - 223.255.255.255
Please see this forum thread on how to access the hidden settings.

There you can set custom IPv4 ranges to 0.0.0.0 - 9.255.255.255, 11.0.0.0 - 126.255.255.255, 128.0.0.0 - 169.253.255.255, 169.255.0.0 - 172.15.255.255, 172.32.0.0 - 192.167.255.255, 192.169.0.0 - 223.255.255.255 and it should to the trick, provided you you don't use IPv6 connectivity.
