NetWorx icon is missing in macOS Menu Bar - How to fix 10 March 2025, 15:14 |
If you installed NetWorx app on your Mac and then got stuck being unable to access the app because there is no NetWorx icon in your Menu Bar, don't worry - you are not alone.
Missing Menu Bar icons are a common problem on macOS. Whenever there is not enough space for all the icons, macOS simply hides some of them without giving the user an easy way to access them. Windows has the "Show hidden icons" button that reveals the overflow (that's the little button with an upward arrow in the taskbar), but on macOS there is nothing. This problem is particularly common for those who have a MacBook with a notch, which reduces Menu Bar space even further.
The solution:
1. Reduce the number of icons in your Menu Bar.
Open System Settings - Control Center, and cull everything there that is not necessary. You can also drag unnecessary icons off the Menu Bar with your mouse while holding the Command key.
2. Disable NetWorx speed widget in Menu Bar.
This has been resolved in NetWorx version 7.2.2: the Menu Bar speed widget should be automatically disabled when NetWorx detects the notch. But if that's not the case for you, first remove as many Menu Bar icons as you can, to get NetWorx speed widget fit into your Menu Bar. Then click the widget and uncheck the Display Speed in Menu Bar item. After that, NetWorx will be displaying only its icon in the Menu Bar, which takes significantly less space. Then you will have more space to put other icons back in the Menu Bar, and have NetWorx app accessible too.

Lost access to NetWorx on macOS 25 March 2025, 10:09 |
I've just purchased NetWorx, installed it on my Mac, then opened the app from the icon in the menu bar and without realising what I had done I had turned off showing icon in menu bar. I have checked everything I can think of, went to control centre and cannot see NetWorx listed. How can I access this app so as to turn the icon back on?

We have just updated the NetWorx app to better address this issue. (After downloading the new build, you may need to terminate the NetWorx process in Activity Monitor before updating if it's still running.)
Now, if macOS hides NetWorx icon or widget due to insufficient space in the menu bar, the app will appear in the Dock, allowing the users to left-click its icon and access the menu. It will also display a message, notifying the users of what has happened.

Hi,
Can you make that behaviour optional?
I'm using ICE menu bar (https://icemenubar.app/) to hide excessive icons (akin to Windows "Show hidden icons") and unfortunately when NetWorx icon is hidden, it forces the app icon in the Dock. Given that I like to avoid clutter this is just a bit annoying. Could you add an option to disable this behaviour?

Thank you for reporting this issue. It appears this is indeed an edge case we hadn't fully considered.
The behaviour you're describing makes sense - when ICE menu bar hides the menu bar, NetWorx may mistakenly interpret this as the icon being unavailable and triggers the Dock appearance as a fallback.
We'll look into whether there's a reliable way to detect this and prevent this transition from occurring. If that proves impractical, we'll introduce a manual option to disable this behaviour altogether. I will post an update here shortly.

We have added a checkbox in the icon notification that disables icon visibility checks, which should improve compatibility with the ICE menu bar.
We have also added a check for full-screen apps, so opening an app in full-screen mode should no longer send NetWorx to the Dock.
Please download the new build here.
