Re: Assertion in Core.Treedata line 351 error

9 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

No clue if this is the problem: I have seen a similar error when an application is launched from a flash drive and the flash drive is going bad, is bad, or has issues reading fast enough. If you are launching NetScan from a flash drive try copying it to the computers hard drive and re-launch if it works problem solved.

Patched version works correctly without disabling IPv6. This does make the software more compatible with older versions of Windows Server OS. Many thanks for the update.

Re: Suggestion: add Tabs for new scans

Thanks for replying. I was concerned about how much of an undertaking it would be. I used to use WinMerge, but found Beyond Compare much better http://www.scootersoftware.com/ Again thanks for the consideration. -WS

Suggestion: add Tabs for new scans

9 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

Andrew, I was wondering if you could add TABs to netscan. Sometimes I scan a subnet and then make changes and would like to compare the scan from the last scan. I know I can save them both as files and then look at them, but I would be really nice to just open a new TAB re-scan and then go quickly between the TABs looking for the change. Bonus: Maybe someone with a very fast computer could

Re: Suggestion: FQDN instead of IP

@lingnau It is after all an IP scanning tool, so you are working with IP address. However Andrews work-around is really slick. Just my 2 cents. -WS

Feature Suggestion: add check-boxes to Applications tab

9 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

Andrew, Would you be able to add check-boxes to the "Options", "Applications" tab, like the ones in Remote WMI, Registry, File etc. I have a lot of special scripts I run form Applications, but don't need them displayed all the time. Some have taken a long time to figure out how to get working but I don't need them on the menu all the time. Many thanks. Have a great weeken

Re: Multiple authentication entries

9 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

I second the request. Not only 2 or 3 domains, but many times there are "stand-alone" (i.e. not on the domain) servers that require different passwords. If you do have a credentials manager be nice if I would handle several account names and passwords. -WS

Re: Ignore a host name wildcard during scanning

9 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

@candle86 Here are several things you can do: If you are using Windows DHCP the machines will always get the same IP unless they are re-imaged, network reconfigured, moved to a different port on a switch or the NIC is changed. You can create a VLAN put them on there own network now you will not see them. You can assign them a permanent IP address in DHCP and skip them. You can assign them

Good catch. I have several clients that have host names with dashes in them too. I have not had to import a list but I need to this would not be a good thing. -WS

Re: Quotes around comma-separated command-line parameters

How about: ""user1", "user2", "user3"" or "'user1', 'user2', 'user3'" or '"user1", "user2", "user3"' Is that the best of both worlds??

Re: Looking for a way to detect USB printers, scanners, and keyfobs

9 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

@Me, another thought, if you all your clients are Windows 7 or better you could just write a PowerShell script to give you all the information you want from any or all clients. Might want to do that would be extremely fast and you can store it in a CSV file directly from the PowerShell Script. (Windows XP and Vista machines would be touch and go, depending if they have PowerShell setup on them or

Re: Looking for a way to detect USB printers, scanners, and keyfobs

@Me, you can have the VBScript export it to a file. There are many examples on the net on how to do this. I know the Printers and the USB information is stored in the Registry, you could query the registry keys with NetScan??? That might give you what you need. -WS

Re: Looking for a way to detect USB printers, scanners, and keyfobs

Here is how you can get local attached printers remotely. You can modify the script in the link below to be used with NetScan. I have used a script like this in the past and it worked very well. -WS http://blogs.technet.com/b/heyscriptingguy/archive/2006/08/14/how-can-i-list-all-the-printers-on-a-remote-computer.aspx

Re: TrendMicro OfficeScan - Flags Network Scanner as spyware

I don't go back that far in versions, but I do have v3.8 from 2008. I more than happy to email it to you if that is ok with Andrew.

Re: TrendMicro OfficeScan flags Network Scanner as spyware - add an exception

9 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

Add an exception in your TrendMicro settings on your network. Don't have the company (TrendMicro) add exceptions that will defeat the purpose of TrendMicro software. Yes this software is classified as "spyware" because it can find a lot out about a network. In our case we want the anti-virus and IDS software etc. to stop this software because we don't want the end-users using it. We have

Re: Active directory group membership

You can use an add-on VBScript to do that. This software is so flexible I have a several custom scripts to gather extra information I need.

Re: Importing IP and Host Name list

Active directory queries default to 1000. It maybe the NetScan is just using the default for the query. Hope that helps. -WS
