How to block unrecognised devices

WiFi Guard is purely a monitoring solution, so it cannot block or manage other devices. This is not because WiFi Guard is lacking the necessary functionality, but because it is technically impossible to block a device directly from an application. No other software similar to WiFi Guard can do it.

The purpose of WiFi Guard is to alert you when your network might have been compromised. WiFi Guard periodically scans your network and reports if it has found a device that wasn't there before. After that, it is up to you how to act on that notification. Please take a look at the WiFi Guard guide. It explains how WiFi Guard works and how to make the most of this app.

If your router supports MAC-address black list, it may be possible to block a device in the router settings and deny it access to the network. On the other hand, MAC addresses can be forged, which renders blacklisting ineffective. Instead, if your WiFi password has been compromised, it makes sense to change it, and strengthen the WiFi security further by:

  • using WPA2 or WPA3 rather than WPA or WEP;
  • choosing a strong password that is hard to guess;
  • disabling WPS in your router. It has known vulnerabilities by design.
