Networx dual use

10 years ago, by Praxis in NetWorx Forum

Hi Mike, Instead of using the installed version, set up multiple Portable copies, one per ISP. Name the folder for each copy with the ISP name. Create a shortcut for each copy, using the appropriate ISP name. These must be configured to NOT start with windows, i.e. you'll have to start the appropriate one yourself before you connect to the ISP. This way, each copy will have it's own dat

Application usage tracking

Thanks Andrew, That seems to have done the trick. I didn't have this entry so I added it 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255 I suppose I could say that I should have known to include all possible multicast addresses, but that's way out of my league. and J

Hi Andrew, I installed this latest version dated 2013-07-20 with the custom driver. Prior to connecting to the internet I checked NW Graph and router totals for the day: NW = 15,874.82KB Router = 15,877KB Diff = 2.18KB (router higher at this point, it initiates it's own traffic at boot) and I switched config to 'Ignore Local...', which forces 'All Connections' Once I connected, NW r

Problems with v5.2.8

Hi Peter, It's a good idea to keep a folder of install files (for all apps, not just Networx) and only delete the 'old' version(s) once you're happy with the 'new' version. Create a folder with a name that includes the version # and date (inclu

Hi Andrew, It might help if those menus were drop down lists which would make it more obvious that those options exist. It's not intuitive to use the current implementation, most users don't read the Help and most wouldn't think to hover over and click on the Titles. I have to admit that I didn't learn about the option until I read one of your posts on this forum... J

Torrents not being seen and users not going away

@ Dave 2) When a computer is re-installed and networx is installed. a new user is added to networx list of users, the old one remains. How do you remove old computer names/networx users? You can use SqLiteSpy to delete just those records from the database. J

"unknown" program using a large % of badwidth

I use a spreadsheet to record traffic as shown by: 1) Networx 2) my router 3) my ISP usually once a month because I have 'extra billing points' at: up to 500MB base monthly rate of $35 up to 1GB extra $5, total $40 up to 3GB extra $15, total $55 up to 5GB extra $15, total $70 anything over 5GB is $0.03/MB (= $30.72/GB = ouch) Networx gets its totals from my router (SNMP) and is very us

I'm sure that most routers supplied by an ISP will not allow the user to use SNMP. If you want the feature, you'll have to buy your own router (check before buying though and make sure it has all the nice extra security features too). J

traffic usage per application

Note: the 'unknown' traffic is a 'ghost', it's never been transmitted through my router or measured/charged for by my ISP. However it does affect the Networx quota so you think you've used a lot when you haven't.. To satisfy yourself that this is 'ghost' traffic, compare the Networx total to your ISP which should provide the data usage/traffic counts throughout the month. Well, at least m

Thanks Andrew, I'd never used SQL before, the "Execute SQL" was greyed out and I was at a loss of what to do. I used SQLiteSpy to create and save a simple one line file named PRAGMA.sql and was able to match your results. It's nice to learn something new and I'll spend some time reading up on SQL, it may make it an easier way to update the networx.db when I need to sync some read

Well that didn't work, traffic was not updating from the router. I put the 'working' v.5.2.8 db back and router traffic is being recorded again, but the Application table is still missing which means that I can't Backup my stats. I really need to know how to do the PRAGMA thing. Thanks, J

Hi Andrew, I just installed the newest version from the beta site and included your driver rather than use WinPCap. I connected to the internet and used Firefox to open this site. I then checked the Application tab, nothing re FF was shown. But I did see the note on the Applications tab that I had to have "Ignore LAN traffic" option set to ON. Until now, I wanted to monitor the

Toggle to switch upload / download with SNMP and other stuff

Quoteupload and download tabs are switched. What tabs? I use SNMP and the reported traffic is correct for both up and down, in the graph and the reports. Maybe your router is passing the data 'switched' as far as what is normally expected by Networx. J

SoftPerfect RAMDisk stuck at Win7 welcome screen

No, not an Engineer, just an IT Systems Analyst - retired. A charger and inverter are mounted side by side on a 'panel' which is mounted in front of the batteries which are mounted on their sides to provide easy access to the terminals and keep the 000 wiring as short as possible. As amazing as this sounds, I don't have a camera to take a pic. I bought the components in Aug. 2002 (I checked)

I bought individual components and 'assembled' them: 1) Xantrex 40 Amp charging unit 120VAC-12VDC, has setting for AGM type batteries, quick recovery when AC power is restored 2) Exeltech XP 1100 watt pure sine wave inverter 12VDC-120VAC, the best for electronics (e.g. PCs) 3) two Lifeline Marine GPL-4CT batteries - 6 volt AGM type, in series = 12V (these weigh 66LB each!) 4) PowerPulse desulf

Thanks for your suggestion to put the FF profiles in the RAMdisk. I had to go through a bit of a learning process, but I've done it now and I can see that I could also have two profiles, one for general browsing and another for financial transactions. I'll run with just the one for now to get a feel for how it impacts boot times, etc. Hey, I have a question for you... When you set up your RAMdi

I tried RAMdisk Kevin but my needs were/are very simple and since all my drives are Sata3 SSDs, I didn't see much difference in speed, at least for what I tried. I haven't tried any other 'ramdisk' so I can't help you there. A 'ramdisk' is probably a great app for folks that have slow HDDs and are continually accessing (a lot of) the same files over and over and that will fit into an image fil

That is a common issue with security apps. I used to use a security app that, because of timing issues during the boot process, would occasionally "not trust" something that had already been marked as 'Trusted and Allowed'. At least that app popped up a warning, if Avast doesn't then that's too bad. But, you're using the 'free' version of Avast which may not offer that option. Anyway,

Are you using a VPN? If so, both the physical device and the VPN device are counting the same traffic, giving 'double' results. You can select just one device or use the Factor to 'divide by two' (you'd actually specify the Factor in the Hidden settings as "0.5". J
