Re: RAM Disk contents lost after reboot

7 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

QuoteDevnulliusSo in the end... Development has been pretty much halted because of these bugs? Or am I completely wrong here? You are wrong here, the development of this product is still in progress. But it's pretty hard to fix errors in kernel-mode drivers, especially if they are not reproducible in the test systems.

Try to enable the Allocate within the specified NUMA node only option in the RAM Disk's advanced properties.

Re: RAM disk crashes if pagefile.sys size isn't set to zero or not selected by Windows

7 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

Quoteshurikenix If size of pagefile.sys set to zero or selected by Windows, ramdisk works fine, otherwise Windows crashed on boot. I try many values of pagefile - 512MB, 1024MB, 4096MB - nothing changes. Without ramdisk Windows works correctly with any size of pagefile. What size do you specify for the RAM disk? How much memory your system have installed?

Re: Corrupt RAM Disk - Saving to Image

7 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

QuoteMarzl Finally I used HxD hex editor to check for the file for zeros. Yes, zeros almost everywhere, only a few bytes in the beginning are not zeros. I couldn't reproduce this issue. Could you give us more detailed information about your system's version, installed applications, loaded modules, etc. You can run msinfo32, then select Save from the File menu and send us the .nfo file by email

Thank you. The fix for that is expected in the next release, I think.

Re: Creation of image file failed

QuotenamikikeI find 'NOT IMPLEMENTED' operation at line 144 in file env2.CSV I see the problem: it is related to non-standard sector size (1024 bytes). Quotenamikikewhat's next? The same log for disk type = Volume, please.

Juan, do you have CCleaner software on this system?

Re: Unmount and immediately remount

8 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

In that case you can move WebCache folder to the RAM drive manually and then use Link Shell Extension application to create symbolic link for it in the C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows directory.

Re: Auto-mount RAM disk on Windows startup

What amount of RAM is visible to your system and what size of the image file?

Re: Automount

8 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

Is that disk an image-based or a pure RAM disk? Do you use "hard disk emulation" option for that disk?

Re: Automount RAM disk on Windows startup

8 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

Every RAM disk that you're creating using menu commands "Disk -> Add" or "Disk -> Add boot disk" will be mounted automatically during system startup. The difference between these two commands is in the system startup stage at which mounting occurs: boot-time disks are mounted at the boot stage before the logon screen, logon-time disks are mounted only after user has log

Re: Hard drive emulation results in unallocated ramdisk

8 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

Quotei2kOk, so the correct way is a hard disk image. Yes. Quotei2kI've got it to work with volume image. Nothing bad will happen, right? Yes, but in that case you will have to create partitions in the Disk Management yourself.

Re: Hard drive emulation results in unallocated ramdisk

8 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

Quotei2kI create an image, then use the image to create boot disk. It appears to be mounted according to the SoftPerfect RAM Disk window but in Disk Management it appears as unallocated. It also doesn't show in My Computer. This usually happens when you use different image types (volume or hard disk) while creating image and mounting it.

Re: Error C000009A

BlueScreenView won't be of much help. SoftPerfect needs to analyze your kernel memory dump files from C:\Windows\memory.dmp.

Re: Volatility/Persistence issue

Check this thread for an explanation of the effect.

Re: Memory usage

8 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

Presently, RAM Disk can't use memory beyond 4 GB on 32-bit systems.

Re: Volatile data on ramdisk is saved persistently in Windows 8.1

8 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

This is due to Fast Startup feature introduced in Windows 8. There is a plan to fix this issue in future releases, but as a temporary workaround you can simply disable this feature in Power Options.

Did you try the Hard Disk Emulation feature introduced in version 3.4?

The bug has been fixed in 3.4.4 release. Please download the latest version.

Re: Locked Volumes in Win7 & WinXP

8 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

Quotebeta2When I try using the Windows "chkdsk" function on the physical c: hard drive, it is unable to perform it. Error message says the Volume is locked or being used. What exact command did you use to run disk checking? I suppose something like "chkdsk /f /r", right? Also, is the volume C: a system volume where the Windows operating system is installed?

Re: WLIB

Try reinstalling the application, this should help.

Re: Mounted ram disk won't uninstall

Try these steps. 1. Remove the following registry keys: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\vvramd HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SPVDPort HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SPVVEngine 2. Remove the following files in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Drivers directory: spvdbus.sys spvve.sys 3. Delete entire installation directory (usually in C:\Program Files\SoftPerfect RAM Disk)

Re: Win8 slow restart with mounted ram drive

8 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

QuoteZohar Based on 8GB image. Save contents to image - checked. That can be it because it takes some time to dump disk data to image file.

Re: Win8 slow restart with mounted ram drive

8 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

What are the exact settings are specified for the disk? Is your disk based on an image file? What type of RAM disk are you using (boot/logon)? Also please specify OS version including the type (32- or 64-bit).

I tested it on Windows 8.1, both x86 and x64 versions. Works fine.

RAM Disk doesn't show mounted disk

9 years ago, by VD in RAM Disk Forum

Did you use "Mount Image" command? It just mounts image file, it does not actually create any RAM disks. You should use "Add" or "Add Boot Disk" commands instead.

QuoteharrydbIt seems that a spin lock is triggered. Can you try to reproduce this issue once again? I'd like to see the stack for that thread, but it seems that you didn't set up symbols in Process Explorer so let's do this. First, please download Debugging Tools and install it as standalone component. Next, specify the path to the dbghelp.dll module (typically, it is located at \Program File
