NW stops working when Ignore Local Traffic ticked

EDIT to above post: I haven't used it yet, by v5.2.8 changes says: QuoteAdded recording traffic usage per application in the Ignore LAN traffic mode.

NW stops working when Ignore Local Traffic ticked

10 years ago, by overworxed in NetWorx Forum

This may / may not help. If select "ignore local traffic," then probably need "All Networks" selected / showing in the box above the ignore local traffic. And (probably) then, when click networks button, should have checked: "all networks I connect to." Unless you have a special network system w/ multiple adapters, etc. I don't know you can monitor individual

No total (up + down) line available w/ polyline graph?

10 years ago, by overworxed in NetWorx Forum

Thanks. I understand that. I'm saying / asking / suggesting that the "Total" line (u/l + d/l) be added, on polyline view. Perhaps optional, for users that don't want it. I'm not sure why one would want to see total data on histogram graph, but not on line graph. Many polyline (line) & other types of graphs, in all sorts of applications, show the "total" graph - wh

"unknown" program using a large % of badwidth

If task manager doesn't show the path to the "unknown" process / file, then use something like Process Explorer (one of the best) from Sysinternals http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653. It often shows more info than task mgr. If path column in task mgr isn't selected, add Image Path Name. Go View > Select Columns > check Image Path Name.

No total (up + down) line available w/ polyline graph?

NW doesn't seem to show an u/l, d/l AND total traffic line when type graph is polyline. Trying to switch to histogram to see if it would show all 3 brought on the problem of it not logging proxy traffic: http://www.softperfect.com/board/read.php?8,15039 Under "Graph Colors" there's a color for "All Data," but a graph for all data never appears. Not one of the "hidden

Networx 5.2.8 crashes when ignore lan traffic is switched on

After checking ignore local traffic (or other changes & NW isn't working as you expect), try rebooting. Have NW set to start w/ Windows. Rebooting has gotten it back on track for a couple of problems, for me. No guarantee.

Torrents not being seen and users not going away

10 years ago, by overworxed in NetWorx Forum

I'm no expert, but my settings (that weren't chosen specifically to log torrent traffic) are to check the "Ignore Local Traffic". Also Monitored Interfaces is "All Connections," but w/ the ignore local LAN traffic setting. Then if you look in "Networks" button, should see "All networks I connect to" is checked. That SHOULD catch every thing on internet

Networx stopped showing proxy traffic after making UI changes

10 years ago, by overworxed in NetWorx Forum

Well, rebooting system started NW logging the proxy traffic again. Doesn't solve question of why changing the graph display would cause it to stop logging proxy traffic. I repeated that process 2x. NW was logging proxy traffic; I changed graph from polyline to histogram: it stopped logging proxy traffic.

Networx 5.27 x64 in Vista x64. When using Networx w/ "ignore local traffic w/in the LAN" & select "All Connections" - does it ever ignore / exclude any (some?) traffic going through proxies? Using regular Fx, the settings I have work fine & I think NW is showing accurate rates. Using Tor Brower, it showed nothing - for a bit - even though that traffic must pass thr

Ignore Local Traffic + All Connections-only option for auto start in user acct

Having raised 3 kids, have you considered water boarding? For Vista, because of its UAC, if an app wants to access certain files / processes, it forces a request to enter an admin acct PW - if running in a user acct, or give consent if running in an admin acct. The only sure way around it for something like NW (I know of) is to disable Vista's UAC. I don't know that I'd suggest that w/ tee

For certain things, NW doesn't work in Vista the same as other OSes. I just haven

Yes, but is Speedmeter using the exact same method to measure transferred data size as NW uses - WHEN I'm using the NW option of checking the "ignore local traffic" box on settings Main UI page, AND monitored interface box is grayed out - showing All Connections? If NW & Speed meter use 2 diff methods, unless while using the NW settings above, they are known to still give same res

Ignore Local Traffic + All Connections-only option for auto start in user acct

You're right - I wasn't even thinking of overhead in terms of data size. Since my one test showed a difference of ~ 5.36% larger data measured by NW than actual file size, that's not much. Total protocol overhead including headers, dropped packets & all other sources could easily be more than that, according to what I've read. When I need to d/l another larger file, I'll measure it again

Thanks for details. I may see part of the problem - Networx wasn't tested on Vista. QuoteAndrewa choice of network interface is meaningless when the Ignore LAN traffic checkbox it ticked. "Ignore Local Traffic" with "All Connections" only option for auto-start in user account

Did more checking & made screens. 1) If installed version is simply "auto started" w/ Windows - WHETHER in a user or admin acct, there are NO options in monitored interface drop box, shown w/ "Ignore Local Traffic". Period. No matter what else I check / uncheck. 2) If have NW auto start & select one of interfaces from drop box (say, Intel Gigabit card), and THEN c

After installing 5.2.7 (not portable) in Vista x64, I'm seeing the same problem as had w/ the portable NW using WinPCap. Unless NW is started once in admin mode, AFTER a reboot, OR unless log into an ADMIN ACCT, it doesn't show the options that include "Ignore Local Traffic" in monitored interfaces drop box. If choose Load With Windows & select my wired Intel nw card that shows

Yes, installed version of NW works - because it uses its own file to monitor traffic - not WinPCap - & shows options to Ignore Local Traffic, when booting it in a normal user mode. Otherwise, for those using portable & want it to start w/ Windows (& show Ignore Local Traffic options), they'll either have to launch NW in admin mode - once per session - or create a task to start NW

I had an older installer version (since I used portable). But now that it has ability to place an icon of choice in the prgm folder, which will be used for the TRAY icon, then that same custom icon (of users' choice) can be used to replace icons in the networx.exe "resources." I did it as a test & it's fairly straight forward. The icon I replaced the originals with (in networx.exe

QuotePraxisWhich option are you referring to, or both? -the option to monitor the 'Ignore local...' interface is always present and available but No - on Portable. On my portable (as explained in Help Manual), you can only see / use "Ignore Local Traffic" in the DROP BOX under monitiored interfaces, if have WinPCap installed. For portables, forget the option at bottom of Main tab UI.

It is possible to change the task bar icon for most apps - I've done it w/ browsers. I'm surprised that NW doesn't use the same icon for task bar as for the tray (when substituting custom icons). Come to think, the icon I was changing only showed up in task bar anyway (a browser). Have you found that if select Load on Windows Startup - w/ portable - that you must start it in admin mode (onc

Well... yes, it is confusing. I don't know if Networx was designed to have as many instances of installed & portable versions running. But naming / renaming any icon file to networx.ico1 won't work (don't imagine) because it wouldn't be recognized. Be like naming networx.exe to networx.exe1 - it's no longer recognized as executable file. If this is what you mean. Icons: You can replace

Seems the only way a different installed version (portable vs installed, etc.) could be showing settings for one another is if they shared same config file (the database). Is that how you have them set up - to use the same folder / DB? Other than that, how could they get settings for another version? On # 1 - I have the portable version & when I check Load on Windows Startup, it automatic

I'm not sure that will help - because of WinPCap FAQ explanation of this issue. As said, the security logic for WinPCap is strange & their website confirms this. "Ignore Local Traffic" option unavailable in portable NetWorx

Andrew, Found the cause behind options disappearing in portable NW, in monitored interfaces drop box, that had "Ignore Local Traffic" attached to them. But don't know exactly why or the solution.
