Re: No computers are monitored (main window list is empty)

2 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

It sounds like your connection was removed, perhaps accidentally. You can re-add it and re-connect. For that, click the Connect to... button, and type localhost in the name field (and the password if you had set it). Then click Ok to connect to your computer. Please make sure the word localhost is entered precisely like this, without spaces or other alterations.

Re: How to detect share folders in Network Attached Storage

2 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

SoftPerfect Network Scanner can detect any shared folders that are accessible via the SMB protocol, which is usually the case for NAS devices. If it does not detect them for you, it may be due to guest access in SMB2 and SMB3 being disabled by Windows security settings. To work around this, you can set the Network Scanner to use its own implementation of SMB, which is not subject to those

Re: Devices on guest network/subnet not detected

In addition to the said above, as the main purpose of Guest Network is in its isolation for security reasons, it is best to disable intranet access for Guest Network in the router settings.

Re: RAM Disk on GPU VRAM when unused. How to...

2 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

As mentioned above, it is not rational to use GPU's memory for a RAM disk because: It is much slower than RAM, and may be slower than SSDs. It is expensive. It may not be stable, as it is not the intended use of VRAM and the implementation is specific to each vendor. That is basically why there are no commercial RAM Disk products for GPUs.

Re: Uninstallation crashes with a blue screen

2 years ago, by Ann in Connection Emulator Forum

Unfortunately it is hard to tell what's causing this. It may be the driver that is a part of Connection Emulator, though it is unlikely as we have not heard about BSODs for years. More likely it is some other driver in your system that is "surprised" by the removal of our driver from the networking stack. Theoretically you could try unbinding the driver manually from network connectio

Re: Best Network Scanner license option for a technician

2 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

In this case, a Single device Business licence is all you need. It also makes more sense to use the portable edition of Network Scanner. Its single folder will contain your licence key and any configurations you create. This way you could carry it around on a USB stick, or upload to a customer system, run in there for scanning, and then delete everything when you finished. If you have mult

Re: Module NGCore.exe error

2 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

It does look like a complex issue. I recommend postponing using NetGenius until we get the bottom of this conflict. This may take a while, and it is unfortunately not guaranteed that we will be able fix it.

Re: Replacement characters in PowerShell output

2 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

It looks like you are getting an error message in non-Latin characters that aren't displayed properly. This was a bug in our Network Scanner which we have resolved in the latest build. Please try it. This time the error message should be readable and hopefully shed light on what's wrong. Alternatively, if you simply want to know whether a service is running, you can use the Remote Services feat

Re: Module NGCore.exe error

2 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

Thank you for the information. It is indeed the case: somehow Dante service conflicts with NetGenius network driver. It seemingly depends on the order they are started in. We were able to set Dante services to be launched as delayed, while NetGenius service starts without delay. Rebooted a few times for testing, and everything worked well every time. Please try configuring the three Dante se

Re: Module NGCore.exe error

2 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

Unfortunately there was nothing useful in the log. However, since you said it worked fine once after a reboot, it may be another service or start-up activity that conflicts with NetGenius. Try going to the Services control panel and changing NetGenius service Startup type to Automatic (Delayed Start). This will start the service a little later after a reboot and hopefully fix the issue.

Re: Module NGCore.exe error

2 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

It seems that for some reason the NetGenius service could not start within 1 minute. I recommend trying to start the installed service manually. For that click Win + R, type "services.msc", then locate NetGenius service and try starting it. Let us know what happens when you start it manually. Another thing that may help to find the cause of this problem is to check if there is an erro

Re: Huge networx.db file

2 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

The issue with exceedingly large database files has been fixed in the newer NetWorx releases. Most likely, you had earlier NetWorx versions on your local machine, and that 30 GB file was created by one of them. Whereas on you server you probably started using NetWorx beginning with one of the newer "fixed" versions, and therefore the file is kept to a much smaller size. If you don

Re: MAC address is not retrieved - Fixed

Thank you for the files, they helped us to find what was causing the problem. We have just released a new version, which includes a fix for this issue.

Re: Different transfer values in NetWorx vs NetGenius

2 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

The implementations of NetGenius and NetWorx are quite different, and also depend on the selected settings. NetGenius, by default, excludes LAN traffic and the processes running as SYSTEM (process ID = 4). All other processes are captured and that's how you can see real-time activity by process. NetWorx, by default, includes LAN traffic and simply monitors how much data was sent over your ne

Re: MAC address is not retrieved

2 years ago, by Ann in Switch Port Mapper Forum

This suggests that MAC address assignments in your switch may be in some unusual format. Would you be able to run SnmpWalk against your switch, dump the complete SNMP tree to a CSV file and send it to us? Also, a screenshot of the retrieved data from the other port mapping application (the one you said worked correctly) may be very helpful.

Re: 'Argument out of range' error - Fixed

2 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

Yes, thank you, it does look right. There was a race condition, as we suspected. We have just fixed it. Please download the latest build and give it a go.

Re: 'Argument out of range' error

2 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

Thank you for the report. This sounds like some kind of a race condition or a bug that occurs in a rare combination of factors and settings. We prepared this debug build for you to run, which will provide more details when this error occurs, allowing us to identify and fix it. Once this 'argument of our range' error happens again, it will display detailed call stack information. Simply send

Re: Suggestion: Limit the quantity of email notifications

2 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

You are right, we double-checked it and found that in some cases e-mails may still be repeatedly sent even if the list of MAC addresses did not change. Please try the new builds. WiFi Guard should now only send an e-mail when the list of detected MAC addresses changes (i.e. a MAC address appears or disappears).

Re: Running this application as a regular user and cannot change any settings

2 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Please try the following: Exit the RAM Disk app via File - Exit item in the main menu. Do not use the button, as it will only minimise the application instead of closing it. Remove ramdisk.xml file in %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\SoftPerfect\RAM Disk\ramdisk.xml Start the RAM Disk again. You should now be able to enter the licence key and access all the functions.

Re: How to change data display from bytes to bits

2 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

The Multiplier that you are trying to set determines how megabytes are calculated from bytes: whether 1 megabyte equals 1000 * 1000 bytes or 1024 * 1024 bytes. That is, whether they are megabytes (MB) or mebibytes (MiB). If you want the graphs and speed meter to display information in bits per second instead of bytes per second, you need to change the Transfer rate unit on the Graph tab in the

Re: Changing the location of Edge cache folder

2 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

MS Edge is not creating two copies of the cache. What's happening is the Cache Relocator creates a symbolic link in the hard disk folder you mentioned. However when MS Edge writes into it, it actually goes to the RAM disk. The folder in your user profile is merely a link to the RAM disk location. Here is more information about symbolic links.

Re: How to relocate Internet Explorer cache

2 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Unlike all other browsers supported by the Cache Relocator, Internet Explorer is a little tricky. The relocation needs to be done from Internet Explorer itself. To move its cache to the RAM disk, press Win + R to open the Run window, and type inetcpl.cpl to access the Internet settings. On the General tab, click Settings, then Move Folder...

Re: Quota time customization

There is some flexibility for minute and hourly quotas. On the Advanced tab of the Add/Edit Quota window the periods can be changed to e.g. 7 hours or 30 minutes. Otherwise the periods are set and can't be varied.

Re: How to restore traffic graph on the taskbar

2 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

To turn the graph taskbar extension on, right-click an empty space on the task bar and choose Toolbars - NetWorx Desk Band. If NetWorx Desk Band is not shown in the list of tools, reinstallation of NetWorx might help. You may also need to unlock the taskbar to resize the graph. To do so, right-click an empty space on the task bar again, untick the Lock the taskbar menu item, resize the graph to

Re: NetWorx doesn't run if NetGenius is installed

2 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

NetWorx can run in parallel with NetGenius, however the application monitoring in NetWorx can't be used in that case. The reason for it is that capturing application usage requires a network driver to intercept network communications. Two drivers that are doing the same task conflict with each other. In other words, you can have both NetWorx and NetGenius installed and running, but the Igno

Re: IPv4 address numbers are limited to 2 digits each

We have fixed this issue. Please download the latest build. You can install it over your current installation. After that, it should accept 3-digit octets in IP addresses.

Re: IPv4 address numbers are limited to 2 digits each

Thank you for reporting this issue. It sounds like a bug in our product that is related to custom DPI settings. Do you know what your monitor DPI settings are (specifically scaling in %)?

Re: Password recovery

2 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

I am glad to hear that you recovered the password. Regarding %ALLUSERSPROFILE%, it is not a file. It is an environment variable that in your case id equal to "C:\ProgramData". Which means that the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\SoftPerfect\NetWorx path becomes C:\ProgramData\Application Data\SoftPerfect\NetWorx, and that's where you found the DB files.

Re: Operation failed with status code C000009A

2 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

It is unlikely that a RAM disk will help with Zoom and lag, as it's more likely caused by deficiencies somewhere along the network connection. Improvements in video-editing are possible, but you will likely need a RAM disk larger than 4 GB. You may like to have a look at this article on how a RAM disk can be used to improve performance, then test the free 30-day trial of the latest RAM Disk ver

Re: Menu buttons are greyed out

As NetGenius supports monitoring of multiple computers at once, you need to click/select your computer name in the main view/list to enable the buttons: The Usage, Blocking and Settings menu items are available when a computer is selected/highlighted. The Limits, Properties and Usage menu items are available with an application is selected/highlighted. To remove the taskbar extension, right-
