Re: "Failed to setup system event" error when starting emulation

3 years ago, by Ann in Connection Emulator Forum

Have you tried completely uninstalling the Connection Emualtor, rebooting, and then installing the latest version, as advised above? Version 1.7.9 is almost two years old. This issue has been fixed in the latest version. Please try the current release of the Connection Emulator and see if it solves the problem for you.

Re: Deleting and recreating the Temp folder automatically

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Is there a particular reason why you want to create a temporary folder in a non-volatile image file and then automatically delete it each time? RAM disk .img files are used for non-volatile (persistent) data, but in this case the data is purposefully kept instead of being automatically deleted. So the scenario you are asking about, where a folder is created for permanent data storage and yet ge

Re: Missing Router SNMP MIB Query option in Lookup Methods

3 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

It looks like a config upgrade issue. We were unable to reproduce it, but there are two ways to fix it. Either of these two methods should make all four MAC-address resolution settings reappear in the list: ARP query, NetBios query, WMI query, and Router SNMP MIB query. If you are okay with losing your current configuration and starting over, simply choose File - Current Config - Reset to Defa

Re: "Browse For Folder" dialog doesn't show RAM disk in the directory list

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Please download and try this updated Cache Relocator zip file. It should default to "This PC" rather than "Desktop" when browsing for folders, and display all available drives. Another reason for this problem may be due to a Windows peculiarity: if there are too many files/folders/icons on the Desktop, the "Browse for Folder" Windows dialog can't handle it all. It

Thank you for reporting the issue with IPv6. We have just fixed it in the latest build, and from today onwards IPv6 addressees are enclosed in square brackets.

Re: Mounting RAM disk to a directory instead of a drive letter

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

It is not supported directly, i.e. you can't assign a RAM disk to a folder from within the product. However, for your use case you could use symbolic links, with which any directory could be mapped to a RAM disk. For example, you have your RAM disk at R:\ and the folder you want to point to RAM disk is C:\some\folder. Simply open a command prompt as admin and type: MKLINK /D C:\some\folder R

Re: Border frame around taskbar extension

3 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

Sorry, we have been unable to reproduce this issue. After running NetGenius taskbar extension for 1 hour, there was no still frame around it. It may well be a GPU driver issue or something else, but I am afraid we can't fix it if we can't reproduce it. You may want to try enabling the background by right-clicking the NetGenius extension and unticking 'Transparent'. This will also make the char

Re: Speed Meter Start button is disabled

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

It was a different issue in Windows, but yes, there is a fix. Please try the latest NetWorx build and let us know if the Speed Meter works there. These builds no longer depend on MSXML system component, which seems to have been the culprit.

Re: Scheduled synching of RAM disk with its image file

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Thank you for your suggestion. You will be pleased to learn that this feature is already available in our RAM Disk. Open you RAM disk properties and enable the "Save Contents to Image" option. Then click the Advanced button, enable the "Save contents to associated image" option and select the frequency in minutes. After that, all RAM disk data will be written to its image f

Re: High reads and writes on the real physical disk

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

That is because you created and mounted a disk image, not a RAM disk. A disk image is basically a simple container associated with a drive letter. It lets you place your files there and later use that image with a RAM disk. In other words, when you copy files to your image, they go into that container sitting on your hard drive (physical disk). For using a disk in RAM (aka RAM disk), please se

Re: Change my email address

3 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

To avoid bothering our customers with extra messages, and to prevent missed renewals in those instances when emails are lost or caught up in spam, we do not send reminder emails when licences are due for renewal. Instead, the app will let you know once the licence has expired, and you will be able to renew it with a special discount, if you wish and when you wish. Then, you can simply use your

Re: Feature request: Create filter with right-click

We have published the new version of the Network Scanner for macOS. Now its Windows and macOS versions are built upon the same source code and are much closer in their functionality. Please download the latest Network Scanner for macOS and share your feedback or report any bugs in this forum topic or or via our help desk.

Re: RAM disk doesn't mount when image file is on a removable drive

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

This is likely due to the order in which Windows Mount Manager initialises the connected devices. The RAM Disk driver starts before any portable devices are mounted, so the image file is simply not found at that point of the system startup. You could either move the image file to non-removable storage, or try using a logon-time RAM disk. Logon-time RAM disks are mounted upon user logon, at whic

Re: Tray icon greys out after going online - Solved

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

Good to hear that you quickly discovered the source of the problem. Whenever the notification area icon becomes greyed out and/or the traffic monitoring suddenly stops, there are two things to check: Whether the correct network interface is selected in NetWorx settings, in the drop-down list in the Monitored interfaces section. Whether you are connected to the network selected for monitorin

Re: How to monitor smartphone Wi-Fi usage from a desktop computer

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

Unfortunately monitoring a specific WiFi device from a desktop is computer is technically impossible. The reason is that the device communicates with the router directly, and your computer will not see or even know about it. The only way to do this is to monitor the device on the router. This may or may not be possible, as the router itself must support such monitoring. Some top-end routers hav

Re: Locally administered MAC addresses support

Thank you for your feedback and suggestion. We have added a setting that allows you to automatically mark devices with locally administered MAC addresses as known. Please download the latest version, then go to Settings - Whitelisting, and enable the "Automatically mark locally administered addresses as known" setting. After that, all future scans should treat those devices as known

Re: Maximum RAM disk size on Windows 10

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

On 32-bit systems, a RAM disk can be up to approximately 3.5 GB. On 64-bit systems, a RAM disk can be of any size. Within the limits of available RAM, of course. Also, just for your information, some years ago a few users reported that they were unable to create a boot-time RAM disk larger than 150 GB. The cause of that could not be determined, but those users successfully dealt with the pr

Re: License update timing, pricing and discounts

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

I will explain using a single device business licence as an example. Imagine that you bought a single device business licence for the RAM Disk today, on 5 January 2021, priced at $49. Every licence includes one year of version updates. Which means that this purchase gives you a licence key that will work "forever" with today's version of the RAM Disk and with any its version released

Re: Statistics numbers are too high

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

If NetWorx data reports look unrealistically high, please make sure you are monitoring one network interface instead of all interfaces. For that, open the NetWorx settings and choose one specific network interface to monitor. The reason for it is that when NetWorx is set to monitor all traffic on all network interfaces, it sums it all up (which can include LAN traffic and/or multiple virtual and

Re: NetWorx suddenly stopped counting traffic

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

Most likely, your list of network adapters has changed. Please check whether your WiFi or wired network card is listed and selected in the Monitored Interfaces drop-down list. Alternatively, you can try enabling the Ignore local traffic within the LAN option, which will activate a different data collection method, and see if that solves the issue.

Re: How change the "since" date in usage report

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

The Since option always displays the oldest date recorded in NetWorx database. In your case this date is incorrect for some reason, as NetWorx didn't even exist at that time. Sometimes BIOS can add a date record like that. While the usage records cannot be edited in NetWorx, you can edit the database directly. To delete that odd date: Download SQLiteSpy. Launch it, and load the NetWorx da

Re: 'Page Setup' issue in Usage Info

Thank you for reporting this issue. It was a bug that creeped into the latest release, and we have just fixed it. Re: How to reset all settings back to the initial configuration

3 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

You can revert to the default configuration via File - Current Config - Reset to Default in the main menu. If that doesn't help, please share some screen shots of the "net view" output, as well as what the Network Scanner displays. Generally if net view succeeds, our software should work too, as it relies on the same Windows functionality.

Re: Speed Meter test algorithm

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

Speed testing is done like this: A random block of data is transferred for at least 10 seconds. Each second, a record is made of the speed achieved in that second At the end of the test the average and the maximum values are calculated. For example, let's say we have these measurements in megabits transferred each second: 9 9 8 7 9 5 10 8 9 7 Then: The maximum will be 10, as this is th

Re: Dealing with unidentifiable devices

3 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

The simplest way to identify the devices would be to think of what in your place has access to the Internet. Many devices that were isolated in the past can now connect to the Internet, such as house alarms, fridges, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, etc. So if you have any of such 'smart' home appliances, keep them in mind too. If the device is hard to identify from its detected name, or if t

Re: Gateway MAC address is partially different

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

As you have already noticed, the MAC address is only partially different. Generally, for the same device, the first three octets of the MAC address match, and the last three octets can differ to a various degree. The first three octets are manufacturer-specific and are fixed. The last three octets can be anything. This is described on the MAC Randomization page of Android OS manual. Random M

Re: How to remove RAM drive after the free trial has expired

Yes, all our software can be removed without purchasing a licence, even after the trial has ended. At SoftPerfect, we strongly believe that users should be able to test software products without pressure or purchasing obligations, and freely delete the software when they no longer need it. Our RAM Disk application can be removed like any other Windows application. Go to Apps & features, loc

Re: Using NetGenius with external IP address lookup tools

3 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

The lines that look like "domain: https" are not incorrect. Here, https is not a URI scheme, and the domain name does not form a URI. It is displayed in the domain-name: port-number format. In this case, port-number is 443, and its textual representation is https. In general, something like "some-domain: 1234" means there is a connection to that domain to port 1234. However

Re: How to block a specific connection of an application

3 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

Unfortunately, NetGenius doesn't support blocking or limiting individual connections. Blocking and setting limits is done at the application level, i.e. it is possible to set a limit on an application or block the whole application, but not a specific connection within that application. There is however a workaround. You can add watch.redd.it to the Windows hosts file and map it to 127.0.0.1, w
