Re: "The parameter is incorrect" error

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

We have just found one thing that may be have been causing this. In version 4.3 we fixed the issue with the software performing a full image update instead of differential. However the differential update locks the disk for a short time, which may intermittently result in such error. We will fix this shortly and publish updated builds.

Re: Boot-time disk update fix in v4.3

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

There is no need to recreate the disk or image to take advantage of differential saving. After installing the new version, simply open the disk's properties and click OK. It will prompt if you want to re-mount the disk to apply the changes. Choose not to and then reboot the system. This will update the configuration stored in the registry so that differential writing will now be used. If you cr

Re: Boot-time disk update fix in v4.3

It could have led to longer shutdown times. When you pressed Save to Image button, that saving operation was correctly differential, without causing any delays. But a regular shutdown/reboot erroneously caused the entire image file to be written. That was a bug in our product, which is now fixed. Regarding Windows 11 support, there were no major changes in the product in that regard. After all,

Sure, we have added the 1 second refresh rate. You can download the new build here.

You are probably using an older version of RAM Disk below v4.0.8. It works fine with the latest version:

Re: Network scanning suddenly became very slow

Would you be able to post a screen shot of your WiFi Guard settings? In particular I need to see the Network Adapter section from the Basic tab in the Settings (highlighted below). It sounds like you may be scanning a virtual network, which may also explain the unknown MAC addresses.

Re: Filter consolidation

2 years ago, by Andrew in Switch Port Mapper Forum

Thank you for the suggestions. I think it's best if multi-value matching is done with regular expressions. This way it's not only easy to include/exclude certain strings in a single filter, but more complex filters can also be made. We have added regex support in filters in the latest builds. In a regex multiple matching alternatives are separated with a vertical bar, so you can do something li

Re: Disk runs out of space if Comodo Internet Security is installed

I have tested it with mounted VHD file as you suggested and encountered the same issue. In this test the I:\ drive is a mounted 8GB VHD file and there is 1.2 GB difference in free space reported in Windows Explorer and chkdsk output. Microsoft has this article on NTFS disk space misreporting, but none of the points are relevant to our case. I have come to the conclusion that it's not ou

Re: Disk runs out of space if Comodo Internet Security is installed

I am afraid this is not reproducible. Here is my test case: Create 600 files 2 MB each with random contents totalling 1.2 GB Create an 8 GB RAM disk with compressed NTFS Copy these 600 files ten times from D:\TEMP to R:\TEST and query free space There is a space discrepancy with 2.2 GB been used while the files occupy 1.2 GB but that's not unusual and not related to the pro

Re: Restored taskbar on Windows 11 with StartAllBack

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Indeed, we have tested this setup and it works. Looks like StartAllBack either enables the old taskbar buried somewhere in Windows 11, or provides its own implementation. Either way, it does a good job of improving usability. Thanks for sharing this tip!

Re: Disk runs out of space if Comodo Internet Security is installed

Sorry we were unable to reproduce this. We have installed the latest version of CIS and our RAM Disk, and copied a 300 MB file to a 1 GB RAM Disk a few times. The used disk space remained correct, as you can see in the screen shot below. I guess in your case it may be caused by CIS antivirus that retains a copy of written data for checking, but it should behave the same way with any volume, eve

Re: No speed shown in the taskbar on Windows 11

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Since Microsoft have crippled the taskbar, I am afraid apps can no longer customise its areas or install custom toolbars. We are working on a solution, but at this stage we cannot make any promises. You could use a floating NetWorx graph sitting somewhere in a corner of the screen, or dock it above or below the desktop. In the latter case it will always be visible even with other windows maxim

Re: Automatically saving speed meter results as CSV

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

There isn't anything special about sqlite3.exe, it's just a regular console program. I have tried this in a batch file and it worked as expected. How exactly do you run it?

Re: Automatically saving speed meter results as CSV

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

It sort of depends on how frequently and where you need that CSV file. Speed test results are saved to an SQLite database, so you can extract them periodically or on demand. Download the SQLite command line tools and extract sqlite3.exe. Then in a command prompt execute something like this: sqlite3 -csv -header "%PROGRAMDATA%\SoftPerfect\NetWorx\NetWorx.db" "SELECT * FROM SPEE

Re: File spvve.sys crashes when unmounting

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

The RAM Disk uninstaller will not unmount RAM disks or unload drivers, so there should be no BSOD upon uninstallation. Simply close the GUI via File - Exit in the main menu and uninstall the application from Apps and Features. It will then ask you to reboot, so at next boot drivers won't start and any files that were locked before reboot will be removed.

Re: Feature suggestion: Dark mode

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetGenius Forum

There is no need to stop the service as the installer handles that. You are only asked to close the GUI which can be done via the Exit menu item following right-clicking the notification area icon, or choosing File - Exit from the main menu. Having said that, you raised a good point. We will update the installer so that it closes and restarts the GUI automatically.

Re: Feature request: Additional filter lines

Good idea, thanks! There is no harm in allowing more filters, so we have just raised the limit from 5 to 10. You can download the new builds here.

Re: Feature request: Ability to display the graph only

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetGenius Forum

We will check if this can easily be done, but if not, you can keep using NetWorx for this purpose. By the way, at the moment we're merging NetWorx for macOS and NetWorx for Windows into one product. Some old features like dial-up will be removed, others will be enhanced and unified between these platforms. Here is work in progress:

Re: Feature suggestion: Dark mode

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetGenius Forum

This Windows setting does not really apply to Win32 applications (e.g. if you open Notepad, it will also be in light mode regardless of the setting). You might notice that applications that use their own UI rendering like Chrome or FireFox respect this setting, but regular Windows application do not. The only way for us to implement dark mode in NetGenius is to use a custom skin. Luckily that's

Re: Retain column sorting in NetScan GUI

2 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

Thanks, we will test that too. It's probably related to some specific scan in your config.

Re: Retain column sorting in NetScan GUI

Would you be able to send us your config file and result file? It looks like this only happens with a specific set of settings. You can wipe out any passwords or sensitive data from those files before sending.

Re: UEFI RAM disk or OS boot loader driver

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

No, our RAM Disk requires a functioning copy of Windows to run on, so it can't be used to create a RAM disk on bare metal. The only workaround is to run a virtual machine like VM Workstation or Oracle Virtual Box on Windows and place a disk image on a RAM disk. Essentially there will be two OS running: Windows as host OS from SSD and any other OS as guest from RAM.

Re: Download/Upload label position on taskbar graph

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

That's a good point. We have reverted the software to use the original display order (D/U). The alternative order (U/D) can be now set in the hidden settings as shown below. Please download and try the latest build.

Re: Retain sorting in NetScan GUI

2 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

That's a good point. Thank you for the suggestion. We have just updated NetScanner application to remember the sorting order between sessions and maintain it during scanning. You are welcome to download and try the new builds.

Re: How to protect application from being closed via Task Manager

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

That's just how operating systems work. If an application is killed from the Task Manager, it does not receive any notifications and it cannot refuse to close. Normally, a workaround for this is revoking user's administrative permissions and running NetWorx under a different user account. In this case the user will not be able to terminate processes of another user. Alternatively, the system

Re: Scan in v8 is slower than in v7

2 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

It's either that the settings are not exactly identical, or you found a regression. It may be some specific scan that is taking time, so I would recommend turning scanning options off one by one until you determine which one is culprit. We can then look into it. If the Display inactive devices is unchecked, but inactive devices are still shown, it is usually because Allow ARP outside current su

Re: The meaning of '2x' in friendly names

2 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

Most likely, you have more than one identical names assigned to one device, e.g. once by its IP address and once by its MAC address. You can simply delete the redundant records under Options - Friendly Names / Comments in the main menu. Alternatively, you can set the application to hide duplicate values in Options - View tab, by setting Repeating values in a column to Hide repetitions:

Re: General setup for packet loss

2 years ago, by Andrew in Connection Emulator Forum

If, as you describe, you have Zoom on one laptop and Connection Emulator on the other, it's not going work. Zoom's network packets will travel directly to the Internet and back unaffected. The laptop that has Connection Emulator installed will never receive Zoom packets. The simplest way to make it work is to install both Zoom and Connection Emulator on the same computer. In this case, all or s

Re: The meaning of "Disable hybrid boot" option in the installer

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Yes, this will turn off Windows Fast Startup, though the system will still boot comparably fast. It's okay not to disable it, but there may be some side effects like files and folders remaining on a RAM disk after shutdown.
