Re: VPN with other applications: transfer counted twice

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetGenius Forum

You should be able to disregard the traffic of NordVPN by choosing All processes then selecting NordVPN processes and setting their status to Skipped. Then NetGenius will not take into account any traffic from these processes and hopefully solve the double-counting.

Re: WAN Interface (BH)

2 years ago, by Andrew in Bandwidth Manager Forum

NDISWAN interfaces are used internally by Windows when connecting to a WAN link like dial-up or ISDN. They are not used much these days and the most recent releases of Bandwidth Manager do not display these adapters.

Re: Malwarebytes gets stuck at startup

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Sorry this doesn't seem reproducible. In our test Malwarebytes worked well with TEMP/TMP set to either Z: or Z:\Temp where Z is an NTFS-formatted RAM disk. But if it does not work for you, try ticking the Hard Disk Emulation option in the RAM disk properties. Some programs don't like it when temporary files reside on a standalone volume, so this setting usually makes them happy.

Yes and it's almost ready. Here is a sneak peek at what's coming:

Re: "Invalid #0 character" error on starting up

2 years ago, by Andrew in WiFi Guard Forum

It sounds like your configuration file has been damaged. Please try the following: Close WiFi Guard via File - Quit in the main menu. Don't use the button as it will only minimise the application. Press Win + R and enter %LOCALAPPDATA%\WiFi Guard. This will open WiFi Guard's settings folder. Delete everything from that folder, start WiFi Guard again and enter your licence key. After this, al

Re: How to isolate internet traffic from LAN traffic

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

The reason why NetWorx disables the choice of a network interface is that it captures network traffic at a higher level (WFP/TDI) in the system whereas the concept of network interfaces only exists at a lower level (NDIS). This is a design decision that unfortunately makes the application unsuitable for your scenario. DU Meter most likely operates at the lower level, so it can capture network

Re: How to isolate internet traffic from LAN traffic

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

It's odd that NetGenius caps your connection. In our tests on a gigabit connection there was no speed drop and very little CPU usage. It is however important to understand that there are two processing modes in NetGenius: Read-only mode. This is active when you don't block any apps, don't change their priorities and don't assign speed limits on them. In this mode the software passively monitors

Re: How to disable Desk Band

Sure. To turn the desk band off, right-click an empty space on the task bar and untick Toolbars - NetWorx Desk Band.

Re: User name in remote SNMPv3 scripting

2 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

Somehow the user name property was indeed missing. We have just added it into the application and the docs. Please download the latest build and you should be able to specify a user name like this: 'Create SNMP object and set target host set objSnmp = Internal.CreateObject("snmp" objSnmp.Host = "x.x.x.x" 'Use version 3 and get sysDescr objSnmp.Query.Version = 3 objS

Re: "Initialisation of VVLIB failed" error on Windows 11

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

That error message usually means the drivers were not installed correctly. I recommend that you completely remove the RAM Disk application and reboot your computer. Then install the latest version from the RAM Disk home page. This should solve the problem.

Re: RAM disk with enabled virtual memory (pagefile.sys)

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

A RAM disk is allocated directly within physical RAM, i.e. it is never written to a page file. The observed behaviour is likely how Chrome caching works. For example, when the page file is enabled, the total available memory is RAM size + Page File size. Chrome probably sees that it has sufficient available memory and stores its data there. Yet since not all of that is RAM, Windows starts movin

Re: Wildcards in remote registry

2 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

That's a good point, thank you for mentioning it! Please try these new builds. The application will now read both the keys and combine the result: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Re: Wildcards in remote registry

2 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

Wildcards are only supported in key name, but not in parameter name. To get a list of all installed apps and their versions from the above registry key, simply tick Retrieve list of installed applications option:

Re: Reasons for a low speed of a RAM disk

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

In that case I am afraid we can't do anything. Since all RAM disk products exhibit similar performance, this slowdown may be caused by other drivers or Windows settings. There is also a chance of an antivirus interfering with disk I/O trying to find viruses in the test data. I would advise to start identifying the bottleneck by turning off real-time virus monitor(s). Windows Defender is install

Re: Reasons for a low speed of a RAM disk

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Sorry we don't really know the inner workings of RAM hardware. Our RAM Disk relies on Windows Kernel API, so it's likely to show speeds close to other products'. Do I understand correctly that you have tried SoftPerfect RAM Disk, imDisk and Arsenal Image Mounter and they all showed similar results?

Re: Graph position changes when the mouse cursor is moved over

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

When the axes are removed, naturally the upper edge of the graph becomes the new maximum. You seem to be using the fixed Y-axis capped at 140K while your speeds are actually higher. Furthermore, you set the colour of the graph lines to the same grey as the graph frame, so of course they become hard to distinguish. Below is an example with different colours, and it is much easier to see: Unf

Re: Missing Google Chrome item in my instance of Cache Relocator

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

It sounds like you are using a portable version of Chrome. It is not supported as there is no official portable version from Google. Assuming you are using portable Chrome from PortableApps.com, unlike the installed Chrome it doesn't use the profile folder for the cache. Instead the cache is temporarily created in %TEMP% when you start it and is deleted when you close it. So there is nothing t

Re: Graph position changes when the mouse cursor is moved over

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

To make the graph smaller, you can turn off the chart axes by going to the hidden settings and setting Show graph grid and axes to False as shown below. The odd window movements when you hover the mouse over the graph are likely to be caused by some third-party software installed on your system. Do you have any kind of Windows-enhancing apps or window managers installed?

Re: Feature request: Ability to display the graph only

Sure, that's a good point. We will add a floating graph and post a download link here.

Re: No speed shown in the taskbar on Windows 11

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

We have just checked, and it looks like Windows does not allow "always on top" windows to overlap the taskbar. This is the case in any system between Windows 7 and Windows 11. I suppose this is a Microsoft's design decision that top level windows are shown beneath the taskbar. If you really want the graph to be visible at all times, it can be docked above or below desktop via the Gra

Re: Can't run RAM disk as Admin

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

The above advice is 8 years old and was for a much older version. For the current version the file is %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\SoftPerfect\RAM Disk\ramdisk.xml Please see "RAM Disk requires administrative privileges" article for more details.

Re: Reported transfer is half of what I should have

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetGenius Forum

Yes, the usage figures should become correct over time.

Re: Reported transfer is half of what I should have

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetGenius Forum

That would be because there is traffic processing and classifying in this software. This requires CPU time to handle the data, which may reduce the maximum speed you are getting. Is your connection really 1 Tbps? Most business and home Internet connections are capped at 1 Gbps.

Re: Using RAM Disk to speed up video editing

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Sorry we are not familiar with Magix software and can't really advise on setting it up with RAM Disk. If the software uses a cache and it can be configured in its settings, then you can point it to a RAM disk and this will greatly speed up operation. Alternatively you can save your video and project files on a RAM disk and open them with Magix software. This will speed things up, but bear in mi

"The parameter is incorrect" error - Fixed

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Fantastic! New version (4.3.1) with the above fixes is now released.

Re: "The parameter is incorrect" error

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Thanks guys, it was indeed Visual Studio 2022 that caused this issue. The exact cause is unclear, but for some reason, when VS 2022 is installed, certain GDI calls that RAM Disk uses for drawing the disk usage bar occasionally fail. We have just rewritten it so that if the drawing fails, it will simply try drawing it again later. Please try the new build from the 24th of November and let us kno

Re: "The parameter is incorrect" error

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

That's really odd, especially if it also happens when no images are used. I am sorry about this guys, I wish there was a quick and easy way to reproduce and fix, but like any other intermittent issue, it may take time to track it down. Could you please post here a screen shot of your main RAM disk app window? This way we can see exactly how it's configured and hopefully that'll shed some light

Re: "The parameter is incorrect" error

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Have you tried the latest build from the 12th of November? It's the same version number (4.3.0), but we have fixed the issue where the drive would become read-only in that build.

Re: Feature request: Remember layout across restarts

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetGenius Forum

Sure, that's a good point. We have just updated the app and will now remember the chart height. You can download the new build here.

Re: "The parameter is incorrect" error

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Please kindly download the latest build, try it out and let us know how it works for you. Hopefully the 'parameter is incorrect' issue should now be resolved.
