Re: Missing web-site list

4 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

In version 6.2.8 we have removed IP address logging. The reasons for that include general low popularity of this feature, disk space considerations, and most importantly it was not compatible with CPU-efficient monitoring. This however has nothing to do with speed testing. You can still run your speed tests from the Speed Meter window, as you did before.

Re: Show fully qualified domain names (FQDN)

4 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

We have added HTTP support as well. If you download and install a fresh build, you should be able to see the correct host names (i.e. the real host names instead of the reverse-resolved domain names like Akamai) for both HTTP and HTTPS connections.

Re: Usage is not recorded while the user is logged off

4 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

It is simply because NetWorx runs like a regular application, which is closed when you log off. It's just the way it's been designed. If you want to keep recording your usage while you are logged out, I recommend NetGenius, our newer app. It is basically a modern and simplified reincarnation of NetWorx built from the ground up. It tracks your usage by application and runs as a service, so it wi

Re: Show fully qualified domain names (FQDN)

4 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

Yes, this feature is normally implemented by extracting the data from so-called SNI, or Server Name Indication. We have implemented SNI name extraction in the latest NetGenius build - you should be seeing names that are more meaningful than Akamai's. Please try the new build and let us know how it works for you. At the moment this will only work for HTTPS, not HTTP (we will add HTTP support

Re: Rules, quota and group load capacity

There is no hard limit on the number of entries; but the more you add, the slower everything will be. In extreme cases, you may see severe performance degradation, so it's better to test it thoroughly before deployment.

Re: How to use NetGenius on multiple devices

4 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

The multi-device capability is available in the trial version as well (there is no difference in functionality between the trial and licensed version, except that the free trial is limited to 30 days). Here is how you can use it: First of all, it is important to know that NetGenius consists of two components: Management Console and System Service. These components can communicate over your loca

Re: "No adapter available" on macOS

This simply means that the network adapter specified for scanning is not present. Please open the Settings and choose your WiFi adapter from the list:

Re: 0 ms Response Time and device discovery success rate

4 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

1) Version 6.0.2 shows zero response time when the device was discovered via an ARP request (arping) rather than ICMP request (regular ping). The latest version measures this time, whereas the older version simply reports a zero. Longer response times are typical of mobile devices that are generally found in sleep mode. 2) Likewise, some devices may be in a sleep state, causing them to respond

Re: How to fix the "database is locked" error

4 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

It looks like the database file may be opened by another process, e.g. an antivirus/security product. It is hard to tell whether a re-install can prevent this from happening again, but it's worth trying the latest version. Installing the latest version over the existing one should keep your data unchanged, but, just to be sure, please back up C:\ProgramData\SoftPerfect\NetWorx. Note, it's Prog

Re: Multiple IP ranges get obscured on restart

4 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

Thank you for reporting this issue and for the detailed description of how to reproduce it. It was very helpful! Although the exact cause of the glitch is unclear (most likely one of the quirks of the underlying library), we have added a simple workaround that resizes the inputs once the initialisation is completed. Please download the updated build and it should resolve the problem.

Re: Single license and old computer replacement

4 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

It is totally fine to move your licence to a new computer. After removing the RAM Disk from your old laptop, you can re-use the same licence code on the new laptop. There is no limit on the number of re-installations. The only thing you need to keep in mind is the free update period you choose for your licence. Make sure that you either choose a period that would cover the time when you plan g

Re: How to disable the "update period has expired" notification

4 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

It is only possible in the latest version (4.0.9) where we added a global setting for that, but not in prior versions. However, the users can either simply ignore these infrequent notifications, or use the registry solution offered above. Alternatively, you can renew your licence with a discount (currently 50%) and upgrade to the latest version, which, besides that setting, also features signif

Re: How to disable the "update period has expired" notification

4 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Starting from version 4.0.9 of the RAM Disk, there is an option to suppress further notifications. In earlier versions, the notification pops up once every 3 months and does not affect the functionality of the RAM Disk in any way. If it is still undesirable, you can disable the notification via Windows registry: Make sure the RAM Disk app is not running: quit it via File - Exit in the main menu

Re: Installing NetWorx on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

4 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

I am afraid we only have builds for x64 architecture. Offering builds for other platforms would mean more time and resources dedicated to testing and maintenance, while the market share of desktop Linux is very small, and the market share of non-64-bit systems is now even smaller. However, our Windows programs normally run well under Wine. In your case try the following: Update Wine to versio

Re: Assertion failure in version 6.2.8 - Fixed

Thank you for reporting this problem. This was indeed a small bug that sneaked into the final release. We have just fixed it. Please re-download and reinstall/replace NetWorx, and the error should be gone.

Re: A way to choose the current IP address range automatically

There is an easy way to choose the network range. Simply click the Automatically detect the network configuration button in the toolbar, select the required interface, click Ok and it will fill in the current network range.

Re: Graph shows no activity when "Ignore local traffic" is enabled

4 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

This suggests there may be an incompatibility with a third-party network driver. If you are using other software products like a firewall, antivirus, VPN or Internet security suite - all of these filter network traffic and thus may interfere with NetWorx. If you want to exclude local traffic and monitor apps, you can try our new product NetGenius. It is built upon a different technology and may

Re: "Unable to create file" when exporting device data

4 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

We have just re-tested the export function in the latest version (2.1.2) and the file was exported successfully. Here is a couple of reasons why the error may be happening on your mac: Apple AppStore apps run in a sandbox and it may prevent the app from writing and reading external files in user-specified locations. If that is the case, try searching your entire disk for WiFi Guard.DB. This file

Re: How to display multiple IP and MAC addresses

Simply click the [+] button on the left side of those rows. Or click the Expand button in the toolbar above. It will unfold the full lists of IP and MAC addresses. Consequently, clicking the [-] or Collapse will fold the lists back into one row. It's a tree-like structure, for convenience:

Re: IP address history/log

4 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

NetWorx doesn't keep a log as such, but rather a per-application per-IP address statistics. To see it, you need to be using the installed version of NetWorx (the portable version doesn't have this feature because it requires a driver to be installed). Then go to Settings and enable the Ignore local traffic within the LAN setting. After that, you should be able to see applications and their per-

Re: IP address history/log

Historic records are not a part of NetGenius, and we are not planning to implement this feature because: It is relatively rarely needed. It is rarely usable (an application like web-browser or torrent client would create hundreds of thousands records). A large number of records will result in a large database (some users of NetWorx, where this feature is present, complained about 25+ GB databa

Re: Execute command on detection

4 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

The command is invoked once per detection, which may contain multiple IP addresses. What you could do instead, is to extract IP addresses directly from the database and feed them into nmap: Download SQLite command line tools from SQLite site. Extract sqlite3.exe and place it in a folder. Extract and place this .cmd script file into the same folder. Edit the file as needed and specify it t

Re: How to monitor traffic usage on remote computers

4 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

It works over the Internet as well, but since there is no cloud of any kind, it has to be a direct connection. This usually means setting up port forwarding on the router. NetGenius service listens on TCP port 8702, so you can set up port forwarding from and to that port. This way when you connect to the router's external IP address, the connection will be forwarded to the PC and NetGenius will

Re: Adding ignored IP addresses to command line

4 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

There is no specific command line parameter for excluding IP addresses because it is read from the default configuration file. You can create one or more configurations with your subnets and exclusions and then supply them with the /config:filename.xml parameter. Please note that the entire configuration will be read from that file, including subnets and exclusions.

Missing TTL information - Fixed

4 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

Update: we have done more testing and found there was a bug in 64-bit builds that prevented TTL from being displayed. The 32-bit builds were not affected. So if the above recommendations did not help, please download the fixed build here. Thank you for reporting this issue.

Re: How to get time to live (TTL) information

4 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

TTL is not related to credentials. It is determined from ICMP echo/reply, otherwise known as ping. Normally you would not get TTL for ARP-based ping because ARP packets don't carry time-to-live. Below is a screen shot where you can see the difference. Please check the settings highlighted in the screen shot, i.e. whether ICMP ping is enabled and which type of ping succeeds.

Re: Amount of data sent and received during each scan

4 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

It is impossible to predict precisely, as it depends on a large number of factors. However, if you are happy with an approximate number, you can get it by following these steps: Install an application monitor, like Process Explorer. Launch it as Admin, and configure it to display "Network Bytes In" and "Network Bytes Out". Scan one device with the Network Scanner and note

Re: Maximum throughput limit

4 years ago, by Ann in Bandwidth Manager Forum

The 300-500 Mbps limit is the aggregate throughput. No matter how many rules you have, the software cannot handle more than that. Generally, the more rules, the lower is the limit, though 100 rules are probably okay. However, do you really mean to offer 300 Mbps to 100 customers each, or you made a typo? That's a total of 30 Gbit/s! Many hardware appliances will not be able to handle that, let
