Re: Not detecting shared folders on some devices
6 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
Without the [+] sign are either the devices that don't share any folders, or the ones that have been excluded. Try setting Options - Shares - Enumerate - All, as shown below. If still no shared resources are displayed, try opening a command prompt and typing the following lines. This way you will be able to see what error occurs when attempting to enumerate shared resources. net view \\19
Re: Download and upload numbers in exported reports
6 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
The numbers are exported in bytes per second, regardless of the display settings that can be configured to show either bits per second or bytes per second. The conversion is pretty easy. As 1 byte contains 8 bits and M means 1 million, to match the displayed numbers you need to multiply by 8 and divide by 1000000, i. e.: 13258991 * 8 / 1000000 = 106.07 1703936 * 8 / 1000000 = 13.63
Re: Creating RAMdisk with command line
6 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
These command line parameters work with ramdisk.exe and allow you to manipulate RAM disks configured in the running GUI instance. If you want to use ramdiskc.exe, which is a console version designed to be called from services or scripts, simply run it without parameters to see its syntax and usage examples as shown below:

It is in a separate area called hidden options, dedicated to infrequently used parameters. To access the hidden options, simply press Ctrl + O in the regular Settings dialog or double-click the empty space between the OK and Cancel buttons in the Settings dialog.
Re: Disable renewal popup message to allow automatic scrips run uninterrupted
6 years ago, by Ann in Connection Emulator Forum
Yes, there is a way to turn it off. There is a setting in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SoftPerfect\SoftPerfect Connection Emulator\Global\RenewalReminderDate. It can be set to a value of some date in the future. This example of .reg file postpones the next notification date by year 2050: "RenewalReminderDate"=hex:00,00,00,00,a0,c0,ea,40
Re: Ramdisk SMB Share is not persistent
6 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
It looks like you omitted the disk type, as you can see in the CLI reference: Parameter type= defines a disk type, which can be either logon-time disk or boot-time disk. The former is mounted upon user logon, the latter is mounted upon system boot. The default value is logon. In your command line you created a disk that is only mounted at logon. It means it will be mounted much later when a
Re: How to use Packet Loss settings
6 years ago, by Ann in Connection Emulator Forum
With the packet loss, there are two options: percentage of packets to be lost. For example, you can specify 1% to be lost, and at the same time configure it as sequential loss. In this case, if the sequential loss is set from 1 to 1 packet, it means in each 1000 packets there will be about 10 lost packets, randomly distributed, 1 packet lost at a time. If the sequential loss is set from 2 to
Re: Multiplier setting: which one to choose - 1000 or 1024?
6 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
The multiplier setting affects how kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes are calculated based on the measured bytes. There are two systems in existence: When the multiplier is 1000: 1 KB = 1000 Bytes, 1 MB = 1000000 Bytes, 1 GB = 1000000000 Bytes When the multiplier is 1024: 1 KB = 1024 Bytes, 1 MB = 1048576 Bytes, 1 GB = 1073741824 Bytes As some ISPs use the first system and others use the secon
Re: Best tool for retrieving Symantec information
6 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
Our Network Scanner is fairly universal and can retrieve practically any information via WMI, HTTP, SSH, PowerShell as well as from Windows services, registry and files. So if there is a Symantec-specific service, registry key, a file or a web page, it should be able to pull information from any of them. All our products are available as free trials: you can easily download the network scanner
Re: How to create a RAMdisk image and make it mount at boot time
6 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
There is a difference between mounting an image and mounting a RAM disk. The main menu items under Image are for creating an image file, associating it with a drive letter (mounting) and dissociating from a drive letter (unmounting). These menus are normally only used in preparation of an image file. The main menu items under Disk are for creating RAM disks. Those RAM disks can be based on a
Re: How to create a RAMdisk image and make it mount at boot time
6 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
First of all, it is important to note the crucial difference between disks and images. Images are not RAM disks, they are just files that contain a file system, files and folders. There is no way to mount an image at boot time. Manipulations with images are generally for setup purposes (e.g. you can create an image with predefined contents). However, if you create a RAM disk and use an image creat
Re: Shared status lost on RAM disk after reboot
6 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
The RAM disk is mounted by a driver that starts long before services start. These processes happen in parallel, so a service may already be running, but a RAM disk is still not ready. The only workaround I can think of is a simple batch script that checks once a minute whether the drive letter exists. When the drive letter has been found, it starts the SERVER (or any other) service. Obviously t
Re: Network scan through VPN /22 subnet mask
6 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
If the VPN adapter isn't shown in the list of adapters, you can still manually enter the required IP address and scan it normally, as shown below. The Network Scanner itself doesn't make any routing decisions, and scanning those addresses should work the same way Windows works with them.
Re: Traffic monitoring affects some games
6 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
It could be caused by the situation described here: Unstable connection or errors caused by ignoring LAN traffic. Try unchecking the "Ignore local traffic within the LAN" setting to see if it resolves the problem. If it does, either leave it unchecked, or install the TDI driver as follows: Backup usage data and settings via Usage Reports - Backup. Exit and uninstall NetWorx. Reboo

Re: Cannot run a scan: nothing happens after pressing Scan Now button

First of all, please check WiFi Guard settings, the Basic tab, and make sure the correct WiFi adapter is selected in the Network adapters list as shown in the example below (your WiFi adapter adapter may have a different name, but it must be selected correctly to enable WiFi Guard to scan your network). Also please note that network scanning is not instantaneous process: you may need to wait a
Re: How to display Windows version

The Windows build information unfortunately doesn't seem to be available in the old API used with options at the Workstation tab. You can however use the Remote WMI feature to extract the full version information:
Re: High DPI display issues: icons become blurry or disappear when mouse passes over
6 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
Thank you for reporting and describing the issue with high DPI. Some good news here: we have implemented vector icons in the Network Scanner that freely scale to any DPI without any blurriness or loss in quality. Below are the comparison screenshots of the old and new UI. The new icons look a little different to the old set, but should be much more visually appealing at high DPI settings:
Re: Monitoring and recording the Internet speed and dropouts
6 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
If you want to periodically measure the speed of your Internet connection, NetWorx offers a tool called Speed Meter that uploads and downloads test data to a remote server and measures the speed of your connection. The issue here however is that while the Windows version of NetWorx can run these tests on a set schedule and keep a record of the results, the Linux and macOS versions currently la

Re: Complete uninstall of NetWorx
6 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
If you are using the portable edition of NetWorx, it can be removed by simply deleting the folder with the application. The portable edition does not contain the drivers. If you are using the installed edition, it can be uninstalled just like any other installed software via Add/Remove Programs or a similar menu depending on your version of Windows. This will of course remove the drivers as wel
Re: Thread scan stuck: diagnostics and solutions
6 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
As suggested before, you can try: Unchecking Check for write access on the Shares tab in Options. Unchecking all items in Remote File. Alternatively, you can set Max. thread run-time on the General tab in Options to something around 60 sec, and the application will attempt to terminate those stuck threads.
Re: How to change the language of WiFi Guard program interface
6 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum
To change the language of the app, open the Help menu (that is the menu item at the very top of the WiFi Guard window, not the Help toolbar button with an icon), then open the Language submenu, and then select your language form the list. After that, restart the app to apply the new language.
Re: Is it possible to boot Windows from a RAM Disk?
6 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
Unlike a real physical disk, a RAM disk is a software-created representation of a hard disk in memory, and it doesn't really exist before the system boots. Which means Windows must boot first, from a physical disk. You can however place virtual machine software on a RAM disk and boot other instances of Windows (or any other systems) in those virtual machines from the RAM disk.
Re: How to scan the network to see all logged-in users

There is a number of various reasons. The most common one is that your current user doesn't have sufficient privileges (usually you would run the Network Scanner under a domain admin account).

You can do it by using the Live Display feature. Please see the user manual for more info on how to use it.
Re: Installing network traffic filtering driver - necessary or optional?
6 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
The filtering driver enables monitoring usage by application (e.g. how much data particular applications use on your computer). In addition, you will be able to disregard local traffic if your computer is connected to a LAN. Otherwise, the driver is not necessary. Simply install NetWorx without the driver and see if it provides all the functionality you require. Upload/download speed monitoring
Re: Issue with Google thinking it's a less secure app
6 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum
This issue is due to the fact that Google normally uses the so-called OAuth mechanism, which is generally considered more secure. It provides authorisation without disclosing the password. For example, the user can give another site access to the data in their facebook or twitter account, but with OAuth that third-party site doesn't get to "see" the user password and thus shouldn't be ab
Re: How to monitor all IPs in a local network
6 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
Unfortunately it is technically impossible to monitor all IPs from a regular computer. This is because in a regular network, all computers talk directly to a router, without giving a standalone computer any chance to see what the others are doing. In enterprise networks the monitoring is usually done at the router, which is either expensive hardware or a Windows-based server. Alternatively, th
Re: Running portable Network Scanner from USB (licence question)
6 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
Yes, you can install our Network Scanner on a USB stick and use it whenever and wherever you need. The most common scenario is when a technician visits the customers and runs the software from his/her USB stick on different computers as required. For this scenario we recommend to use the portable version as it keeps all its settings in the same folder and is designed to be run from a USB stick.
