Re: Ping Monitor suggestion: Font size customisation - Implemented
today, by Ann in Network Toolkit Forum
The table view (and the rest of the UI) uses the standard system font, the same one used by your Windows Explorer. If that text appears too small for you, you may want to adjust your monitor's DPI scaling settings in Windows. This will change the font size of text and interface elements across all applications to better match your wishes.
Ping Monitor suggestion: Font size customisation - Implemented
today, by Ann in Network Toolkit Forum
Thanks for the suggestion. It is now implemented in the latest build. You can set a custom font face and size for the tiles and charts under Settings - Appearance - Tile View: Font: pick any installed font for the tiles and latency chart (the rest of the UI keeps the standard system font). Size, %: scale from 50% to 300%; this grows the whole tile proportionally and enlarges the chart text, so
Re: How to get higher speeds with throttling
today, by Ann in Connection Emulator Forum
Yes, that's exactly what it's built for. You can set asymmetric rates by entering two values separated by a colon, in the form inbound:outbound (in bits per second). For 100 Mbit download and 35 Mbit upload, you should enter: 100000000:35000000 If the speeds come out reversed (i.e. you get 35 down / 100 up), just swap the two values. It simply means the traffic direction relative to your ad
Re: How to get higher speeds with throttling

It's most likely not a hardware or performance limitation - that only really comes into play near gigabit speeds. Your 7th-gen i7 with 16 GB RAM should handle 100/35 Mbit comfortably, so something in the configuration is probably the cause. Before we can be certain of the cause, could you let us know which connection you've selected in the Emulator's adapter dropdown: the bridge, the Ethernet &

Re: How to fix incorrect or missing OS detection

Both anomalies that you described are explained by the same thing: which API the "OS" field is sourced from. Under Options > Workstation, the OS column is populated from the Windows LanMan API NetWkstaGetInfo. That API returns only a major.minor version pair (e.g. 6.1, 10.0) - no build number, no edition. We then map that pair to a human-readable name. There are two consequences, e
Re: Questions about some changes in the latest versions
21 days ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
We strongly recommend updating to the latest RAM Disk version, as this year we have made many stability, performance and driver quality improvements. Regarding drive letters, assigning a specific drive letter still works exactly as before. What was removed was only the old "Global drive letters for RAM volumes" setting. Now drive letters are always created system-wide via the Windows
Re: Switch port map no longer shows connection lines
22 days ago, by Ann in Switch Port Mapper Forum
The Topology Map draws those lines from LLDP/CDP neighbour data, and the program only queries it when the LLDP and CDP columns are visible in the main port list. If those columns are hidden, the next scan skips the neighbour info and the map has nothing to draw. Please try this: Right-click the column header in the main port list, then choose Visible Columns. Re-enable LLDP and CDP. Make su
Re: How to stop scanning subnets that are no longer in use

Are you saying the PC is sending traffic to those addresses, but Network Scanner isn't running? If so, then it's almost certainly something else, not Network Scanner. A program can send packets only when it's actually running. Your firewall logs the source IP but not the source program, so it's worth identifying which process on the PC is generating the traffic. Thank you for considering SoftPerfect Network Scanner for your engineering teams. Please find answers to your queries below. Update frequency: Network Scanner is typically updated a few times per year, although there is no hard schedule, as some updates are prompted by changes in OS or bugfixes. To get a better idea, have a look at the Network Scanner changelog, which includes dates and details
Re: How to stop scanning subnets that are no longer in use

Network Scanner doesn't initiate scans on its own. It only runs when you explicitly start a scan, or when a scheduled task fires. So the traffic you are seeing is almost certainly coming from one of the following: A scheduled scan in Network Scanner. Open the app and go to Options - Scheduler. If there's a saved task targeting 192.168.14.0/24, disable or delete it. An auto-start scan. If Netw
Re: Ping Monitor suggestion: System tray notifications

Glad to hear it's working well for you, and thanks for the detailed feedback. On the points you raised: The issue with Anchor Left/Anchor Right was due to a minor bug. On Windows 11 the Start button can sit either in the centre or at the left of the taskbar. When it's left-aligned (as on your machine) there's simply no room on the left for the widget, so "Anchor Left" does nothing

Thank you so much for the kind words about Ping Monitor — it's really nice to hear that it's been useful to you. And please don't feel guilty about asking for more. We love constructive feedback like yours. You are absolutely right that a missed notification on a busy Windows desktop defeats the purpose of having one in the first place. This is something we were mulling over, and came up with a

Re: How to use OS mechanisms for autostart
6 weeks ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
In version 26.4, the logon-time volume type was removed. All RAM disks (except manual ones) are now mounted at system startup by the driver, which means they are created during the boot process, long before any user session begins. By the time you log in and your startup applications run, all RAM disks are already mounted and available. Therefore you can simply place a shortcut to your applica
Chrome is not detected in Cache Relocator - Fixed
6 weeks ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
Thank you for providing the detailed information. The "y_kpaoync" directory (it can also be any string or random of characters on other computers) is indeed the cause of the problem. Chrome is using it instead of the standard "User Data" folder to store your profile data, which is why Cache Relocator couldn't find it. We weren't able to determine exactly what causes Chrome t
Re: Chrome is not detected in Cache Relocator
6 weeks ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
Cache Relocator detects Chrome by looking for its cache folder at C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Cache As your Brave, Edge and Firefox are all detected normally, the issue seems to be specific to Chrome's data location on that PC. To find out where Chrome is actually storing its data in your case, please type chrome://version in Chrome's address bar
Re: Permanent log of speed test results
7 weeks ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
NetWorx is a regular desktop application, so it requires a logged-on user session, and naturally the computer it's installed on must be running and connected to the internet for tests to take place. If the connection drops while the PC is running, downtime will be logged. If the PC itself is off (e.g. power failure) or no user is logged on, nothing will be recorded for that period. Speed test r
Re: How to change/edit friendly names
7 weeks ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
There are two ways to assign or change a friendly name: From the scan results: right-click on a device and select Assign Friendly Name (or press F2). This opens a dialog where you can type the desired name. From the menu: go to Options > Friendly Names / Comments. This opens a manager where you can view, add, edit, or delete all your friendly name entries in one place. You can also import an
Re: How to record a log for proving the internet service interruptions
8 weeks ago, by Ann in Network Toolkit Forum
The Ping Monitor app is designed primarily as a real-time availability monitor and its built-in graphs only reflect the current session, so they won't help you prove a recurring daily outage after the fact. For what you're trying to document, we recommend our other product, NetWorx, which has a dedicated Connection Monitor feature that keeps a persistent downtime log with exact timestamps and d
Re: How to make the license available to all server users
2 months ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
Putting netscan.lic into the folder with the executable works for the portable edition, but the installed edition uses a different location. To make your key work across all users of the installed edition on your server, you should copy your licence file from C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\SoftPerfect Network Scanner\netscan.lic to %PROGRAMDATA%\SoftPerfect Network Scanner\nets
Re: Using Bandwidth Manager to throttle remote backups during work hours
2 months ago, by Ann in Bandwidth Manager Forum
Yes, that should technically work. You could set up rules to restrict incoming traffic to a certain limit during specific hours, for example throttling during business hours and allowing full speed overnight. However, it's important to note that the software can't realistically handle more than about 1 Gbit of throughput per second. So it really depends on what your server does day to day. If i
Re: Scheduled speed tests are not running
2 months ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
NetWorx uses a system-wide lock to ensure that only one instance can actively monitor traffic at a time. If a second copy of NetWorx is running — for example, if it was started in both your local and remote session, or a previous instance did not shut down properly — the second instance cannot acquire the lock and all monitoring is paused. This is why the traffic display shows 0.0 MB in both direc
Re: Compatibility with Wireshark network protocol analyzer
2 months ago, by Ann in Connection Emulator Forum
Yes, Wireshark can be used alongside Connection Emulator. That said, we have not specifically tested running both on the same machine, so there are some nuances to be aware of. In particular, when Connection Emulator is configured to drop packets, it is difficult to predict whether Wireshark will capture a packet before or after our driver processes it — so the capture may not accurately reflect w
Re: Duplicates in scan results (multiple connections to the same computer)
2 months ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
This is most likely because the computer has multiple network interfaces, for example a built-in Ethernet, a docking station NIC, Wi-Fi, or virtual adapters from VPN or Hyper-V. Each interface has its own IP and MAC address, but they all belong to the same machine, which is why you see identical hostname and uptime across all those entries. Network Scanner discovers each IP address independentl

Re: Will per-app monitoring driver disconnect me from remote server?
2 months ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
In that case, you would need the per-app monitoring driver installed to track which applications are consuming your bandwidth, because on Windows there is no way to monitor how much bandwidth each process uses without a driver. It should generally be safe to install, but since your server is remote and perhaps mission-critical, we recommend making sure you have a way to boot it into Safe Mode b
Re: Will per-app monitoring driver disconnect me from remote server?
2 months ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
By design, the per-app monitoring driver doesn't interrupt any network connections. It intercepts traffic in read-only mode purely for gathering statistics. However, there is a very slight chance of something going wrong, such as a conflict with another driver, so to play it safe on a remote server you may be better off installing without the driver. All the remaining functionality will be full

Re: Ping Monitor suggestion: Per-device ping interval and timeout

We will look into whether we can introduce per-device interval and timeout settings in a way that keeps the interface clean and avoids adding too much complexity. Maintaining a simple and intuitive UI is important to us, but your use case is valid and we will consider how best to accommodate it. Just as a general note: it is quite uncommon for remote systems to treat once-per-second ICMP echo r
