Re: How to save multiple networks for future scans

yesterday, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

There are a couple of ways to achieve saving IP address ranges for multiple networks: 1. Toggle IP ranges If you have only one IP range per network, you can input all the ranges in the list and toggle them on and off as needed. This way, you can quickly scan specific segments without re-entering the addresses each time. 2. Bookmarks for multiple IP ranges If you have multiple IP

Re: Difference between NetWorx and Connection Quality Monitor

4 days ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

For a home user, NetWorx would generally be a better choice. It not only measures the Internet connection uptime and speed, but also generates detailed usage reports and includes a real-time network usage graph. One key difference is that NetWorx is a regular application that runs only when a user is logged in, making it ideal for personal monitoring. On the other hand, Connection Quality Moni

Re: Suggestion: Smaller graph sampling period and lower startup priority

The "high impact" designation from Windows likely doesn't measure or update that metric frequently. As Microsoft explains, "high impact" simply means the app uses more than 1 second of CPU time or more than 3 MB of disk space at startup. This designation doesn't necessarily indicate any system slowdown or performance penalty. We are glad to hear that the histogram and polyli

It is difficult to pinpoint the exact issue without more details about your network configuration, but a good place to start would be to review your settings. Please go to Options - Program Options - Shares and make sure your settings match those shown in the screenshot below. Specifically, ensure that "Scan for shared resources" is checked, "Method" is set to "Windows

Re: Suggestion: Smaller graph sampling period and lower startup priority

The reason the 'Columns' (bars) graph type doesn't work for you now is because when you change the Mean samples parameter to 0 or 1, there is no more averaging, so the columns can't be shown. This type of graph always uses averaging, by design. If you'd like to have thicker bars visually moving at a faster rate so that any unexpected usage spikes can be easily seen, we've just added a new hidd

Re: Suggestion: Smaller graph sampling period and lower startup priority

We understand your concern about the importance of a short sampling period for real-time traffic monitoring, especially in situations where quick action is needed. Perhaps what you are noticing is that NetWorx uses 5-second averaging by default, which might make it seem like there's no immediate reaction. There are two hidden settings in NetWorx that can help make the graph and upload/downlo

Re: Suggestion: Smaller graph sampling period and lower startup priority

Thank you for your feedback. The current design of the network monitor is based on a 1-second sampling rate, where the number of bytes sent and received is measured over that second, and the bandwidth usage is displayed in Mbps. The graph then updates with a new data point (line) every second, representing the bandwidth for that entire second. If we were to introduce a 0.5s or 0.25s sampling

It looks like your configuration file cannot be written for some reason. This issue is causing both the error during shutdown and the error when adding a RAM disk. To fix this problem, please try the following steps: Quit the RAM Disk app to stop it from running Press Win + R and enter %PROGRAMDATA%\SoftPerfect Delete the "RAM Disk" folder Restart the RAM Disk app

Re: Inactive devices

26 days ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

This issue typically arises because the Network Scanner sends out ARP requests to identify devices' MAC addresses and verify their online status. However, when scanning across subnets, the router often responds to all ARP requests with its own MAC address, which can lead to the software mistakenly displaying inactive devices as active. This may result in all IP addresses appearing online, even if

Re: What will happen to the RAM disk after the free trial ends

The RAM disk partition will not continue to initialize after the trial period expires. To avoid potential issues, you should reconfigure your User Temp directory to use its standard disk location before the trial expires. This will ensure your system functions normally without relying on RAM disks that will become unavailable. However, if you purchase a licence and enter the key into the RAM Di

It turns out that there is a bug in Windows that can cause such crashes in some cases. We have updated NetWorx to prevent these errors from happening. Please download a fresh application file from NetWorx product page, install it over your current NetWorx installation, and the problem will be resolved.

Please follow these steps: Create a file named netscan.lic and paste the below code into it. Paste your license key where indicated and save the file. Place this netscan.lic file in the same location as the netscan.exe file of your portable edition. After this, each time netscan.exe is launched, it will pick up the license from netscan.lic. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="

Re: When deleting files, the Recycle Bin option is missing

By default, Windows does not enable the Recycle Bin on removable drives, such as USB thumb drives. This is likely why you are experiencing issues with the Recycle Bin on your RAM disk when it is mounted as 'removable'. You can fix it by doing one of the following two things: Mount the RAM disk without the Removable flag, which will allow the Recycle Bin to function normally on the RAM disk. Fo

Re: How to get IPv6 addresses in scan results

As far as we know, there is no universally effective method to discover the IPv6 addresses of IPv4 devices. If your machines are running Windows and are part of the domain, you can connect to them via WMI to extract IPv6 addresses:

Re: How to display server time in local time instead of UTC

It depends on what other services are available and whether the server is part of a domain. You can try selecting "Lookup Remote Time and Date" on the Workstation tab in Options. We have also updated the application, so it now displays remote time received from NTP servers in the local time zone. This should make the application more user-friendly. Please download the latest build to

Re: How to display server time in local time instead of UTC

When the Network Scanner queries a server for the time via port 123 (NTP), it receives the time in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). This occurs because the NTP protocol standardises on UTC to avoid issues with time zones and daylight saving time. Steps: Query: The scanner sends a request to the NTP server on port 123. Response: The NTP server responds with the current time in UTC. Display:

You could try a workaround, since it's possible to specify custom IP address ranges to exclude. These would be most public IPv4 addresses: 0.0.0.0 - 9.255.255.255 11.0.0.0 - 126.255.255.255 128.0.0.0 - 169.253.255.255 169.255.0.0 - 172.15.255.255 172.32.0.0 - 192.167.255.255 192.169.0.0 - 223.255.255.255 Please see this forum thread on how to access the hidden settings. Re: No-GUI batch script for importing config and mounting RAM disk

That's because the process (ramdisk.exe) is still running, so the batch file will not continue. As a workaround, you can use the start command: start c:\Progra~1\softpe~1\ramdisk.exe /hide /import:"c:\temp\Ramdisk-xml" /mount: A In this case the batch file execution will continue without waiting for ramdisk.exe to quit.

Trying adding /hide, i.e.: c:\Progra~1\softpe~1\ramdisk.exe /hide /import:"c:\temp\Ramdisk-xml" /mount: A However if you intend to add and delete disks on the go, it is better to use the console version of the RAM Disk application. Those RAM disks will not show up in GUI and will disappear on shutdown or reboot.

Re: Duplicate MAC addresses for different devices

2 months ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

Sometimes you may notice that Network Scanner reports one MAC address for all devices behind a wireless range extender or repeater. In this case it would look like those devices have different IP addresses, yet the same MAC address. A range extender typically hides devices behind itself and does not retain their MAC addresses. It is not a bug in Network Scanner. You can type this line in a comm

Thank you for your feedback. That's a good point. We will change the Speed Meter window to a standard window with buttons. This change will be included in the next release of NetWorx. In the meantime, you can freely open and close the Speed Meter and Connection Monitor. This will not affect the actual monitoring as it is done in the background.
