Re: What happens to application data after the free trial ends
2 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum
When a trial ends, NetGenius stops working, but it doesn't delete anything until you choose to do so. Basically: if you uninstall it at any point, it will (as any decent application should) clean up after itself and delete its data. if you don't uninstall it and do not enter the licence key, it will not be working or collecting new data, but it will keep your settings and the data you have coll

There is no built-in direct printing option, as these days not many people do the printing. But yes, it is indeed very simple: save your result data to an HTML or text file and then print it from your web-browser or text editor.
Re: Incorrect Windows version info: Windows 11 is displayed as Windows 10
2 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
That scan uses an old API that can't fetch build number. Which means that for anything after Windows 10 it cannot determine what OS it is. Because they all have version 10.0 while the build number is not available in this API. You can instead use the Windows Name option in Remote WMI, as shown below. It should work correctly for any Windows version.

Yes. RAM disks can be one of two types: boot-time disks and logon-time disks. For boot-time disks GUI is not required as they are initialised automatically by the driver on system startup even if nobody logs on.
Re: No IP addresses, while MACs are listed multiple times
2 years ago, by Ann in Switch Port Mapper Forum
Depending on how your switches are interconnected, the reason you see one MAC address multiple times might be this: If, for example, you have device A connected to switch B in turn connected to switch C, it is possible that switch B would report device A, but switch B would too report device A as its MAC address came from switch B. I would recommend untangling this by scanning one switch at a tim

That's a great suggestion, thanks! We have added the fetching of SSL certificate info. Please download the new build, open Options - Additional tab, and use SSL certificate information setting.
Re: Remote deployment and monitoring off-site computers

We don't know how Desktop Central works exactly, but there is a couple of ways to automate NetGenius installation: It can be made a part of a machine image deployed to target machines. It can be launched at the target machine with /SILENT or /VERYSILENT command line parameters. It's also possible to specify components to install. For example, this command will install only the service, without
Re: How to get IPv6 address of a remote workstation
2 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
IPv6 address lookup works like this: Network Scanner sends a multicast ICMP echo message to ff02::1 (all nodes on the local network segment). Network Scanner awaits for a few seconds for the local nodes to respond. This populates the neighbor cache with devices IPv6 addresses and MAC addresses. A regular scan is performed, and once an IPv4 device is found, its MAC address is used to lookup its
Re: Skype cache relocation to RAM drive
2 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
1. We have added Skype support in the latest build. 2. With Adobe Photoshop, this setting is accessible from Photoshop itself. There is probably no point in using a RAM disk as a scratch disk as Adobe states: QuoteAdobeA scratch disk is a hard disk drive or SSD used for temporary storage while Photoshop is running. Photoshop uses this space to store portions of your documents and their history
Re: Why session usage is different to send and receive total

It depends on what kind of 'dial-up' you are using. If it's VPN for example, then it's probably the amounts transferred before the VPN was connected and after it was disconnected.
Re: Using RAM Disk with VMware
2 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
It all depends on what you want to achieve and how you use those systems. Since I don't know how you are using them, the following advice is rather generic. As far as I understood, you have Windows 2019 host running Windows 2003 guest in VMWare and you want them to use RAM disk as much as possible to spare the NVM drive. In that case you would probably need two instances of the RAM disk app: on
Re: Thick white borders around menu lists in dark mode
2 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
The changes that we have made that remove the white borders should work on a valid profile and Windows settings. So if the Windows Explorer shows the menus nicely, so will our app. In your regular profile however it seems something is not quite right, so both Windows and NetScanner menus have this border. I would recommend recreating the profile to ensure both Windows Explorer and our app disp
Re: Thick white borders around menu lists in dark mode

Thanks for pointing out the issue with the menu. We have checked the code and it turned out that we were not 100% correctly setting the menu background. Specifically, there is a function called SetMenuInfo that amongst others takes two flags: MIM_BACKGROUND and MIM_APPLYTOSUBMENUS. The issue here that we were passing only MIM_BACKGROUND without MIM_APPLYTOSUBMENUS. This resulted in the menu bac
Re: Scan results show non-existing devices with TCP ports 80 and 8080
2 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum
This would be because your computer with Network Scanner is outside the current subnet; that is, not in 10.20.157.x. In such case, the default gateway responds to every ARP request with its own address and routes connections through itself, which confuses the software. Try setting the ping method to ICMP only on the General tab in Options. This should eliminate all those "ghost" devi
Re: How to get a RAM disk that mounts on-demand
2 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
Each RAM disk remembers its last state. So if you mounted it, it will be re-created on the next boot or login. If you unmounted it, it will stay unmounted on the next boot or login. Therefore, if you think that you aren't likely to need a RAM disk next time, simply unmount it before logging off or shutting your computer down. Alternatively, you could use the console version ramdiskc.exe to crea
Re: How to identify the cause and fix NTFS errors
2 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
Unfortunately it is really hard to tell what might be causing this. Since it's only the image-backed RAM disk that has this error, my best guess would be some data inconsistency because the RAM disk driver has to temporarily block writing to an image-backed RAM disk to write pending changes to the file. As a simple workaround I would recommend using exFAT instead of NTFS. It's generally faster
Re: Scanning and detecting devices in multiple subnets
2 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum
It is not a product limitation, but rather how networks work in general. As you may know, WiFi Guard identifies network devices by their MAC address, so the known MAC addresses are whitelisted whereas an unknown MAC address will trigger an alert. However MAC addresses can only be resolved within the local subnet. The ARP protocol messages used to resolve MAC addresses are not forwarded between
Re: How to monitor the router and other devices connected to it
2 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
In your current setup where you have NetWorx installed on one of your desktop PCs, it is only monitoring bandwidth usage of that PC. The second PC and any other devices are not monitored. It is simply not possible to monitor all network devices from one PC. Selecting your router MAC address only restricts NetWorx to being active when you are connected to your home network. This feature is mainly f
Re: How to get all shared folders and their permissions

There is basic reporting in Network Scanner, for which you need to Enable security and user permission scan in Options - Shares tab. Additionally you can use the free ShareEnum utility from Microsoft.
Re: Recording usage graph over time
2 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum
There is no usage graph overtime, but there are a couple of tools you may find useful: Scheduled speed testing in Speed meter. You can run speed tests every X minutes and record the results over a time period. Connection monitor. This will record connection dropouts over 1 minute (i.e. if the connection goes offline for longer than a minute).

As mentioned earlier, the simplest way would be to add a new table to the database listing all available interfaces and their IDs. We use a custom hashing function for the ID and calculating it outside the software would be complicated. So if you download and install the latest build, you will see there is a new table ADAPTER that has all the information you need.
2 years ago, by Ann in Bandwidth Manager Forum
We were unable to use interface index as it turned out that adapter indices can change between reboots or system upgrades. Instead we take the system adapter name (GUID) and compute a 32-bit hash value of it. The names and their hashes remain the same throughout the lifespan of the system. If you just need to know the mapping once off in a single system, the simplest way would be to create a

You can now download and try the preliminary version. This is not the final release yet. We are still planning to add a global hotkey. If you have any comments or suggestions, please share them here.
Re: Empty disk shows as full in Windows 11
2 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum
In that case please try turning on either of these options: Hard-Disk Emulation. This will emulate an entire hard drive with partitions rather than a standalone volume. Some Windows features like Volume Shadow Copy require a hard disk drive; or Mount As Removable. This will let Windows know that the drive can be removed at any point and it should theoretically close handles and flush all files
Re: Empty disk shows as full in Windows 11

RAM disk is merely a block storage, like a regular disk drive. I contains what the system puts there; no more, no less. If you have a full disk issue, it's something to do with the file system. Usually it's hidden files and folders that aren't shown in Windows Explorer. It could also be NTFS metadata that takes up the space. You could try using a tool like WinDirStat to find out what's taki
Re: RAM disk with enabled virtual memory (pagefile.sys)

Adobe software products, including Photoshop, are unfortunately notorious for their peculiar memory usage and management. Therefore you may like to check your Photoshop settings. The exact procedure may vary, depending on your version of Photoshop, but generally go to Edit - Preferences - Performance and adjust the memory usage limits to something that would work better with your hardware. Also,
Re: Feature suggestion: Customisable sender for email alerts

Many SMTP servers do not allow specifying a non-existent or someone else's sender email address. Therefore, we have instead updated WiFi Guard, so that it would use the product name as sender for emails. This change comes with a simplified SMTP setup where you only need to provide the recipient address, and there is no need to enter the username and password. In WiFi Guard Settings, on the E-ma
Re: How to activate the licence key for all server users

Most likely they licence key did not get applied because you entered it while another instance of RAM Disk was running. Then, when that user logged out, the shared configuration file was overwritten and the licence information was lost. Please ensure that only one copy of ramdisk.exe is running when you are entering the licence. Maybe run "taskkill /F /IM ramdisk.exe" first and then
Re: How to identify what is downloading in the background

We have the NetGenius tool, which can show specific applications and their connections in real-time and allow you to set a usage cap on them. It is offered as a free 30-day trial, so you can check easily it out and decide whether it helps with what yo wish to achieve. NetGenius will not show what apps are using the Host Process for downloading, but it will show where they are downloading from,
